Dem-NPL reacts to Trump’s Joint Address to Congress

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
March 4, 2025

FARGO, ND – Donald Trump gave a Joint Address to Congress tonight.

Democratic-NPL Communications Director Laura Dronen said, “Over and over Trump subjected Americans to lies. Costs are skyrocketing. The economy is plummeting. Planes are falling out of the sky as they gut the FAA. We are less safe and worse off since Trump handed over the keys to our country to Elon Musk and his teeny-bobber minions. As they destroy Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security, where will our seniors turn? As they erode the Affordable Care Act, how will North Dakotans with preexisting conditions afford to see a doctor? As they obliterate consumer protections, who will safeguard us from real waste, fraud, and abuse? When everything that makes the United States of America the leader of the free world has been hacked and slashed to death, what will be left of us?”

Dem-NPL Chair Statement ahead of Donald Trump’s Joint Address to Congress

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
March 4, 2025

FARGO, ND – After firing thousands of federal employees—including North Dakotans—with no regard to public safety, Donald Trump will deliver a joint address to Congress this evening.

Democratic-NPL Chair Adam Goldwyn said, “Trump’s only priority right now is to rig the economy for the ultra-rich and giant corporations by ripping away our health care and raising costs on working families. Whether it’s the price of eggs to housing, Trump’s policies are already making life more unaffordable for North Dakotans, and this will only get worse. Medicaid, which covers 2 out of 3 people in nursing homes, is first on the chopping block, and Elon Musk just called Social Security a ‘Ponzi scheme’—they’re going to steal from you and your grandma to pay for tax cuts for out-of-state billionaires.”

The Democratic-NPL encourages North Dakotans to contact Sen. Hoeven, Sen. Cramer, and Rep. Fedorchak to tell them to commit to protecting Social Security, fighting cost-raising tariffs, and ending the purge of federal workers.

Senator John Hoeven – 701-250-4618
Senator Kevin Cramer – 701-204-0500
Rep. Julie Fedorchak – 701-354-6700

Dem-NPL Chair urges North Dakotans to tell Fedorchak to reject House Budget Resolution

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
February 25, 2025

FARGO, ND – The House Republican budget resolution could be voted on as soon as this evening. To extend tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy, this budget would bring about cuts to Medicaid, hot lunch programs, SNAP, and other agricultural-related programs, and would increase the national debt.

Democratic-NPL Chair Adam Goldwyn said, “The Republican budget robs from you, your children, your families, and your friends to give a massive handout to Elon Musk and the obscenely wealthy.

Democrats offered an amendment to protect Medicaid and House Republicans blocked it. A one trillion dollar cut to Medicaid would be devastating to North Dakota families. Over 112,000 North Dakotans are on Medicaid. Medicaid covers 2 out of 3 people in nursing homes; this would shutter rural nursing homes across our state. And even after they’ve gutted health care for seniors, kids, and American families to pay for these kickbacks to Trump billionaire backers, this budget will balloon our national debt by 4 trillion dollars. I called Rep. Fedorchak’s office today to ask her to vote no and not take health care away from us, our friends, our families, and our communities. I ask every citizen of this state to contact her as well.”

Fedorchak’s office can be contacted at (202) 225-2611 or https://fedorchak.house.gov/contact/email-me

Dem-NPL Chair Reacts to Cop-harassing Republican Lawmaker Posting “Wonder if the CIA would help Trump overthrow and kick this Jew out of power in Mexico?”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
February 3, 2024

FARGO, ND – Williston Representative Nico Rios (R-23) posted, “Wonder if the CIA would help Trump overthrow and kick this Jew out of power in Mexico?” on social media.

North Dakota Democratic-NPL Chair Adam Goldwyn said, “As a Jew myself, I’m not personally hurt by Nico Rios’ bigoted comments about Mexico’s Jewish President Claudia Scheinbaim. Time after time after time he shows us that he does not believe in North Dakota values of individual liberty, loving your neighbors, or the rule of law.

We know Nico Rios is a law-breaker and a bigot. We learned that when we called on him to resign last year when he insulted a police officer in a drunken tirade. Now we will find out who the people of Williston are. As a Fargoan, I could not be more proud of the Dem-NPL legislators who represent me; are the people of Williston proud of theirs? Is the Republican Party proud? Is this who they are? If not, what will they do about it?”

Trump’s illegal freezing of federal funds will harm North Dakotans, says Dem-NPL Chair

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
January 28, 2024

FARGO, ND – President Donald Trump has illegally frozen all federal grants and loan disbursement.

North Dakota Democratic-NPL Chair Adam Goldwyn said, “Over the past two weeks, we have seen what the new American oligarchy looks like: tax cuts and Nazi salutes for Elon Musk and a halt to cancer treatments for your children; pardoning of cop-killing January 6 insurrectionists while sending immigration agents to harass Native Americans; it freezes federal grant funds that support faith groups, farmers, social workers, nurses, and hardworking Americans but doesn’t stop procurements for aerospace, military contractors, or big pharmaceutical companies; it cuts off aid to allies like Ukraine while threatening war against allies like Denmark and Panama. Democrats nationwide have opposed this agenda for a decade; it is time for Americans from across the political spectrum to unite to break the oligarchy that has seized control of our nation.”

Goldwyn continued, “How much of our current budget outlook is based on money Armstrong believed we’ll get from the federal government? Federal grants are lifelines for our homeless shelters, our local infrastructure, and our seniors. They are decimating our federal government, and it will harm North Dakotans for generations.”

Trump Wrong on Wind Energy – ND Delegation must push back, says Dem-NPL Chair

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
January 7, 2025

FARGO, ND – Today, President-elect Donald Trump claimed that his administration would block any new wind turbines saying, “We’re gonna try and have a policy where no windmills are being built.”

North Dakota Democratic-NPL Chair Adam Goldwyn said, “He’s not even President yet, and Donald Trump is already putting the livelihoods of hundreds of North Dakotans at risk by demanding that the important work they do be completely stopped. Wind is the second largest electricity-generating source in North Dakota.

Wind turbine service technician is the fastest growing job in the United States, and North Dakota has the most wind energy-related jobs per capita in the country. Barring North Dakota landowners from building wind turbines would block them from potentially life-changing income and trample on their freedoms.

North Dakota’s congressional delegation, particularly new Energy and Commerce Committee member Julie Fedorchak, must defend these valued folks and the jobs they hold. The North Dakota congressional delegation, including Senators Hoeven and Cramer, like to talk a big game about having influence in the new administration. Now is the perfect time for them to prove it by publicly stepping up and loudly proclaiming that Donald Trump is wrong for wanting to destroy the lives of hundreds of North Dakotans.”

Former ND Young Republicans Vice Chair, son of District 24 GOP Candidate arrested for alleged involvement in Jan 6 U.S. Capitol Mob

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
September 30, 2024

FARGO – KFGO reported today that Damian Johnston, the former North Dakota Young Republicans Vice Chair and son of District 24 Republican House Candidate Dan Johnston was arrested for allegedly participating in the mob that attacked the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

In photos included in the criminal complaint, Johnston could be seen speaking into what “appears to be a microphone” and using a flip phone to film and take photos from within the U.S. Capitol Building.

Democratic-NPL Chair Adam Goldwyn remarked, “January 6 was one of the darkest days in modern American history. Obeying Donald Trump’s orders, MAGA criminals ransacked the Capitol, imperiled democracy, and brutally assaulted law enforcement officers. US Capital Police Officer Brian Sicknick was killed—four others died by suicide following the riot. These rioters should all be held accountable in a court of law. Every single Republican running for office should be denouncing Johnston’s actions.”

In addition to running for District 24 House, Johnston’s father gave the nominating speech for Senator Kevin Cramer at the North Dakota Republican Convention. Johnston’s mother seconded the nomination for Kelly Armstrong for Governor.

Goldwyn continued, “Will Kevin Cramer and Kelly Armstrong denounce Johnston’s actions or will they stand by the far-right radicals they have embraced since January 6? As the Vice Chairman of the North Dakota Young Republicans, Johnston would have had an influential role in building up young NDGOP candidates and lawmakers. District 10 Republican House Candidate Jared Hendrix and District 42 State Representative Claire Cory have been active in the North Dakota Young Republicans–did they know about and do they condone Johnston’s actions?

Whether it’s Ray Holmberg traveling to Prague with intentions to rape children, Nico Rios drunkenly harassing police officers, Jason Dockter being convicted for profiting from taxpayer funds, Emily O’Brien’s alleged illegally lobbying, Claire Cory drinking and driving, or out-on-bail felon Donald Trump’s long list of crimes, Republicans think that they are above the law. Voters have a clear choice this election: the Republican Party is the party of criminals, the Democratic-NPL is the party of law and order.”

Regarding the District 24 race specifically, Goldwyn said, “The choice in this election is clear: Democrats like Nancy Farnham, Shawn Olauson, and Pete Gjovik stand firmly on the side of democracy, our police, and the rule of law. Dan Johnston, Dwight Keifert, and Mike Wobbema stand with un-American, unpatriotic, cop-killers.”

Democratic-NPL Chair on VP Kamala Harris’ Decisive Debate Victory

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
September 11, 2024

FARGO – Last night, Vice President Kamala Harris and Former President Donald Trump debated on ABC.

Democratic-NPL Chair Adam Goldwyn remarked, “Vice President Harris commanded the stage on every issue that matters to the American people, the difference between the candidates was stark: Trump could barely articulate a coherent thought, much less a coherent vision for the American people–instead spewing lies, conspiracy theories, and talking about himself. It was another day, another drama when Trump was in office—we can’t go back to that.

Kamala Harris spoke frequently about plans and policies, specifically she addressed what she called ‘an Opportunity Economy’ that would help working families. She and Tim Walz will work every day to protect reproductive rights and lower the costs of healthcare and groceries. They’ll make wealthy corporations and billionaires pay their fair share in taxes while cutting taxes for the middle class. Harris also stood up for economic issues that are important to us right here in North Dakota, including smart approaches to domestic oil production and fracking while still working to mitigate climate change.”

As Trump threatens to jail election officials, Burgum praises him for “putting people on notice”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
September 10, 2024

FARGO – On Saturday, Former President Donald Trump posted on his own social media platform, “WHEN I WIN, those people that CHEATED will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law, which will include long term prison sentences,” and added, “Please beware that this legal exposure extends to Lawyers, Political Operatives, Donors, Illegal Voters, & Corrupt Election Officials. Those involved in unscrupulous behavior will be sought out, caught, and prosecuted at levels, unfortunately, never seen before in our Country.”

When asked to react to this by NBC’s Kristen Welker, Burgum said Trump was “just putting people on notice.” Previously, Burgum had said he would not do business with Trump, but rolled back those statements in a move many thought to be an overtly opportunistic push to become Trump’s Vice Presidential candidate.

North Dakota Democratic-NPL Chair Adam Goldwyn said, “Trump’s continued threats against election officials are unpatriotic and unAmerican. Burgum and the NDGOP have surrendered their brains to Trump and betrayed American democracy. North Dakotans have always been an independent, free-thinking people, and it is not our way to think how someone else tells us to. We deserve elected officials who will respect our right to vote, not puppets who try to sanewash the bluster and threats Trump uses to cover his cognitive decline. Our lawmakers don’t answer to a president or a presidential candidate, they answer to the American people. Our Democratic-NPL candidates like Katrina Christiansen for Senate, Trygve Hammer for House, and Merrill Piepkorn will always think for themselves and do what’s best for North Dakotans. Why won’t the Republicans?”

Inflation Falls to Lowest Level in Over Three Years

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
August 14, 2024

FARGO – Today the U.S. Department of Labor released the latest consumer price index (CPI) report showing inflation falling to its lowest annualized level since March 2021.

North Dakota Democratic-NPL Chair Adam Goldwyn said, “Under President Biden and Vice President Harris, working families across the country are seeing the benefits of plunging inflation. Republicans are ready to put out-of-state billionaires and big corporations over hardworking North Dakotans. Only the Democratic-NPL candidates – Katrina Christiansen for Senate, Trygve Hammer for House, and Merrill Piepkorn for governor – are the only ones on the ballot this year who will continue the work to lower costs for American families and grow the middle class.”

Economists warn that Trump’s agenda would slow down economic growth and cause higher inflation.

USA Today: “According to a Moody’s study, Trump’s plan would trigger a recession by mid-2025 and an economy that grows an average 1.3% annually during his four-year term vs. 2.1% under Biden. (The latter is in line with average growth in the decade before the pandemic.)

“Next year, under a Trump administration, inflation would rise from the current 3.3% to 3.6%, well above the 2.4% forecast under Biden, the Moody’s analysis shows. Compared with Biden, the U.S. would have 3.2 million fewer jobs and a 4.5% unemployment rate, a half percentage point higher, at the end of a Trump tenure.”

President Biden and Vice President Harris are delivering in North Dakota and across the country while Trump pushes a disastrous economic agenda for working families:

Annual inflation fell below 3% and core inflation fell to its lowest annualized level since April 2021, while wages are rising faster than prices for the 17th consecutive month.

Trump had the worst jobs record of any president since the Great Depression and his plans could supercharge inflation.
Trump and his MAGA allies want to give yet another tax windfall to big corporations, potentially exploding the national debt by another $1 trillion over the next decade.

Walz is excellent VP Choice, says Dem-NPL Chair

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
August 7, 2024

FARGO – North Dakota Democratic-NPLers are excited about Vice-President Kamala Harris’ selection of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. Governor Walz was the keynote speaker at the 2023 Democratic-NPL Burdick Dinner.

North Dakota Democratic-NPL Chair Adam Goldwyn “We couldn’t be more thrilled to support Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. Walz is a champion for children and families, labor, freedom, and rural America.

The difference between the Harris-Walz ticket and Trump-Vance is night and day. Earlier at a rally in Eau Claire, some attendees were overheated and needed water. Walz stopped his speech to ensure they were helped, and said “‘Take care of your neighbors.’ Meanwhile, J.D. Vance couldn’t even answer the question ‘What makes you happy?’ Voters have a clear choice this election: kindness and joy or cruelty and creepiness.”

Cramer does backflips to try to soften Trump’s weird race comments

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
July 31, 2024

FARGO — At the National Association of Black Journalists conference in Chicago today, Donald Trump said of Kamala Harris, “I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black and now she wants to be known as Black. So, I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?”

In response Kevin Cramer told a journalist, “I don’t think he’s doubting her blackness. What he’s doing is he’s making fun of the fact that she chooses it when it’s convenient, and chooses another race when that’s convenient.”

Democratic-NPL Chair Adam Goldwyn remarked, “We don’t need Cramer or any other Trump translator to tell us what he really said. We know what we heard with our own ears. We all know what satire is, and this wasn’t it. It was a gross attempt by Trump to stoke racism, and it’s weird that Cramer is doing backflips to try to soften his comments.”
