“Trump is flushing the economy down the toilet,” Unemployment Hits a Four-Year High

FARGO – Only 22,000 jobs were added in August – well below expectations – including job losses in the manufacturing sector, which are now down 78,000 total for the year. The report also showed that jobs numbers were worse than we originally thought in the prior two months—June’s number was revised down further to -13,000, the first month of negative job growth since 2020. The unemployment rate ticked up to 4.3%, the highest it’s been since October 2021.
North Dakota Democratic-NPL Chair Adam Goldwyn remarked, “Donald Trump promised an economic ‘golden age,’ but all he’s done is flush the economy down his golden toilet. This is the worst economic jobs report since 2020, and for the first time since the pandemic, the U.S. has more unemployed people than job openings. It’s getting harder and harder for Americans to afford homes, groceries, or health care. Instead of doing something about it, Fedorchak, Cramer, and Hoeven voted to extend massive tax cuts to billionaires that are paid for on the backs of hard-working North Dakotans.”
