Goldwyn calls for accountability in Military Museum Event Center

September 4, 2026

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
September 4, 2026

BISMARCK — Today, North Dakota passed a bill to bail out the North Dakota military museum. In the past 5 years, the fundraiser for the museum was paid $430,000, but has only raised $800,000. Senator Jamie Selzler (D-Fargo) had proposed an amendment to cut the loan amount for the GOP’s mismanaged construction on the military gallery from $35 million to $6 million, but it was voted down in committee on a party-line vote. No one has lost their job or contract because of this.

Rep. Adam Goldwyn (D-Fargo), Chair of the North Dakota Democratic-NPL, said, “North Dakotans are bailing out a wildly mismanaged construction project. Only 20% of this is actual museum—it includes a giant ballroom—what’s the GOP’s obsession with balls?

Veterans don’t want a gilded event space. They want better care at the VA. They want better schools for their kids. Veteran homelessness is up in our state. We could be turning this into subsidized housing for veterans. Imagine what the Veterans home in Lisbon could do with more funding! Just last night, I heard from a veteran who said buildings for our current soldiers sit in disrepair in our state. We honor our veterans by addressing these issues, not by mismanaging their tax dollars. And where’s accountability? These failed fundraisers need to be fired!”
