KNOCK DOORS. MAKE CALLS. WIN ELECTIONS.

They all bring so much experience to our team to make sure volunteers not only stay on track with our goals but also make sure we all have some fun along the way.

McFeely: Data center propaganda in full swing

Recent polls show 70% of Americans don’t want data centers built near them and that a majority now oppose data centers no matter where they’re built. One poll showed Americans would rather have a nuclear power plant near them than a data center. Environmental and energy concerns continue to grow, too.

It’s become a national issue for the mid-term elections. Even in red Texas, Republicans are trying to slow the data center train in response to strong bipartisan backlash.
Concerns are many and legitimate. Fear of artificial intelligence, extreme distrust of Smarmy Tech Bro Billionaire Guys, questions about the local benefit of data centers, water usage, rising energy costs.

But here in North Dakota, instead of trying to assuage their fears, Republicans consider you a dolt for raising your hand and asking questions.
Continue asking them, propaganda campaigns or not.

Republican Lawmakers kill bill to ban data center NDAs

Senator Jamie Selzler (D-Fargo) remarked, “North Dakotans have made it incredibly clear that they want transparency in the data center industry. The bill that Republicans defeated today would have done just that. Elected officials should work out in the open on the people’s business, not in secret and behind closed doors. While this idea lost today, Democrats will come back in the regular session to again make the case that an open government is the best government.”

Former Sen. Heitkamp believes the Legislature should change open records law because of data centers

“NDA’s signed by a county who is not part of an economic development project, who are just giving approvals one way or another on zoning, should never be subject to an NDA,” Heitkamp explained. “They’re going to hide behind that trade secret exception and I happen to know a little bit about this because I basically wrote it.”

Dem-NPL leaders call out missed opportunities of special session

Republicans also stonewalled action on data centers, again refusing to debate a pause on new development that would give the state time to erect guardrails. The GOP even killed a bill to ban government officials from signing non-disclosure agreements with data center corporations, letting negotiations stay behind closed doors. These secret NDAs fly in the face of the open, transparent government North Dakotans deserve.

From childcare and data centers to affordable housing, no-cost school meals, and fully funded public education, it’s time to elect lawmakers who actually listen to you so your priorities finally make the agenda in Bismarck.

Goldwyn calls for accountability in Military Museum Event Center

Veterans don’t want a gilded event space. They want better care at the VA. They want better schools for their kids. Veteran homelessness is up in our state. We could be turning this into subsidized housing for veterans. Imagine what the Veterans home in Lisbon could do with more funding! Just last night, I heard from a veteran who said buildings for our current soldiers sit in disrepair in our state. We honor our veterans by addressing these issues, not by mismanaging their tax dollars. And where’s accountability? These failed fundraisers need to be fired!

Data center nondisclosure bill lacks support in committee

Rep. Austin Foss, D-Foss, called the penalties under current law “a slap on the wrist.”

He supported the bill because it includes the possibility that an industrial developer could have a permit revoked if a nondisclosure agreement is in place.

“The crux of this bill is basically saying it’s not all on the public official, that both parties are in violation of that law,” Foss said.

Grand Forks D-NPL candidates talk housing, data centers, school lunches as special session begins

Tyler York, a House candidate in District 43, called on the lawmakers to look again at previously proposed housing investments. In February 2025, the Senate voted down a bipartisan bill that would have seen $200 million put into the state’s Housing Incentive Fund.

“(Former Gov. Doug) Burgum proposed investing $95 million — it died,” York said. “Gov. (Kelly) Armstrong proposed $105 million. Legislators denied both Republican governors’ requests. That record removed every excuse. This is not partisan gridlock. Republicans hold a legislative supermajority. They have the power to act.”

Nearly $28 billion in U.S. exports crossing the border to Canada now carry up to 50% tariffs, a dollar-for-dollar match on Trump’s taxes on Canadian goods imposed last month, according to Canadian officials.

Among the 629 categories of products Canada has targeted are key outputs from U.S. states with hotly contested races in the fast-approaching November midterm elections, including Maine’s paper and lumber industry, Michigan’s vehicle manufacturing and Wisconsin dairy production.

Democrats Have a Chance to “Destroy” the GOP. Will They Take It? Feat. the Bulwark’s Sarah Longwell.

After Donald Trump won the 2024 election, Sarah Longwell did what she’s done every week for the past eight years: She sat down with voters. In How to Eat an Elephant, she lays out the playbook for building a pro-democracy coalition big enough, bold enough, and tough enough to defeat authoritarian populism for good. With the midterms around the corner, how much is the MAGA coalition fraying under the numerous issues brought on by this administration? And does it matter, given the Trump administration's meddling with mail-in voting?
