Dem-NPL Statement on the Passing of Dedicated Public Servant, Beloved Legislator, Liz Conmy

House Minority Leader Zac Ista said, “I am completely devastated at the loss of our friend Liz. She lived life to its fullest, never shying from adventure or speaking her mind—often in refreshingly direct terms. As a lawmaker, she championed public education, the environment, and transparency. With a wicked sense of humor, Liz quickly made genuine friendships across the political spectrum. Truly no one in the House was better at making or taking a joke than Liz. She’s a prime example of how to take the work seriously without taking yourself too seriously. As a friend, I have a hole in my heart. As a citizen, I grieve the loss of an outstanding public servant. May her beautiful children, family, and friends find peace in these difficult times.”

Letter: ND delegation chose industry over people

The federal government has a trust responsibility to Tribes. In canceling this plan, North Dakota’s delegation betrayed that trust. They chose industry over people and politics over public input.

If they still believe the public should have a say, they should support legislation making clear the Congressional Review Act cannot be used this way again.

Dem-NPL Leaders, Lawmakers Mourn Passing of Dedicated Public Servant, Beloved Legislator, Liz Conmy

Gretchen Dobervich (D-Fargo) and fellow District 11 Representative, “North Dakota has lost one of its fiercest advocates and loudest cheerleader. Rep. Liz Conmy stood strong and spoke out for the people she served. She was tireless in her public service, forging collaborations and making new friends everywhere she went. Liz kept us smiling, laughing and never giving up. She led the hike up the 18 floors of the ND Capitol building everyday of Session, sometimes twice for the heck of it. Thank you for it all my friend! You are loved and will be missed.”

Horrors at the border and beyond

On top of that, asylum seekers are often detained by ICE when they go to court, many people legally in the U.S. are imprisoned by ICE, and at least 46 people have died while in ICE custody since Donald Trump became president again.
It’s all outrageous!
With that in mind, nine caring and passionate individuals from North Dakota and Northern Minnesota just traveled to the southern border.
“I was deeply affected. It was life altering,” former Fargo City Commissioner Arlette Preston told me.
“There were so many awful stories that were hard to hear,” Nancy Farnham of Enderlin, North Dakota told me.

Vern Thompson Runs for North Dakota Agricultural Commissioner

Now, as he sees another farming crisis on the horizon, Thompson has decided to return. As singular farms are being bought and merged into larger corporations, as well as tariffs and the war in Iran, Thompson sees a crisis on par with that of the 80s.
He hopes to use his position as Agricultural Commissioner to focus on rearranging and fighting against corporate ownership, prices of gas, tariffs and work toward stabilizing the market.
Thompson continues campaigning, frequently posting videos on Facebook in hopes of informing the North Dakotan public. To him, party lines are unimportant.

US supreme court ‘demolishes’ Voting Rights Act, gutting provision that prevented racial discrimination

“Today’s decision renders section 2 all but a dead letter,” she continued. “The decision here is about Louisiana’s district 6. But so too it is about Louisiana’s district 2. And so too it is about the many other districts, particularly in the south, that in the last half-century have given minority citizens, and particularly African Americans, a meaningful political voice. After today, those districts exist only on sufferance, and probably not for long.”

Millionaire taxes gain steam as states face budget crunches

To Democratic state Sen. Noel Frame, the legislation brings the state’s regressive tax code more in line with Washington’s progressive politics. With no statewide income tax, sales and property taxes leave lower income earners to cover more of the cost of state services, making Washington’s one of the nation’s most regressive tax systems.
“For all the things that we do that are good, big, bold economic policy — to have the tax code that we have is just an embarrassment, and it’s completely out of line with our values as a state,” Frame said.

DNC Launches New Mini-Documentary Featuring Mike Johnson’s Own Constituent — A Louisiana Farmer Who Can’t Make Ends Meet Under Trump

“With this illegal war in Iran, it has been stressful to say the least. We saw a significant price increase on the price of fertilizers. We either have to choose to eat that cost and less money either goes back and invest it into the farm, or we’re not getting paid a livable wage. And we have had people complain. We’ve had people cancel. That makes me feel like a bad business owner, because it’s either I suffer, or they suffer.”
