We are so excited to have 3 all organizers on staff to drive the Make American Good Again Campaign! Andrea Alfson is working in Fargo, and all of Region 8; Sarah Grossbauer will be starting July 1, covering the greater Grand Forks area; and Nicole DesRosier continues working in Minot and the western regions. They all bring so much experience to our team to make sure volunteers not only stay on track with our goals but also make sure we all have some fun along the way.

North Dakota Democratic-NPL Chair Adam Goldwyn remarked, “It’s infuriating that as the Trump-Vance administration is gutting Head Start, Republican lawmakers on the Legislative Management committee refuse to take up child care funding in the special session. Nearly 1,900 North Dakota families are currently waiting for state childcare assistance, and they’re going to do nothing! Head Start and our child care assistance fund are lifelines for working families to ensure their kids are on the path to success. Democrats understand our children deserve better—we’ll keep fighting to protect Head Start while working to make childcare affordable for every North Dakota family.”

Should the Legislature -- and thus taxpayers -- bail out the project? There's an argument to be made that when legislators attach strings to project funding -- as they did with the presidential library -- they should hold those projects accountable. Would bailing out the Military Gallery set a precedent, and lead to a pattern of project organizers counting on the Legislature to rescue them if things go south?

Letter: Where is our fiscally conservative delegation?
A question to our congressional delegation: What’s with this continued unauthorized 6-month war with Iran that you have supported? Trump has said that our bombing of Iran has been so successful that it utterly destroyed Irans war capabilities. If that’s true, why are we still there? What’s the end game? The billions already spent have only brought us to the point that the defense department has now submitted a new budget request for $1.5 trillion. That’s TRILLION.

Tough questions for North Dakota’s congressional delegation
Don’t expect straight answers. North Dakota’s three Trumpelstitskins have mastered the dance, the shuck-and-jive, the duck-and-cover, the deflection and the muddle. Rep. Fedorchak will conduct her staged virtual meetings which will be filtered to favor her fans. Sen. Hoeven will appear before friendly groups to announce more federal dollars for defense contractors and big industrial agribusiness. Sen. Cramer will hit the talk radio circuit, take all questions, and grin through shallow and meaningless non-answers. Not one of them will summon the courage to criticize their president’s grifting, economic debacle, divisive meanness or failing war.

When the committee opened up for questions from members about Magrum's resolution, Ista unloaded.

"This has been a deeply, deeply offensive 20 minutes from the Senator," said Ista, who was participating in the committee hearing remotely. "I think a lot of old wounds in our state have been ripped open. I can see Representative (Pat) Heinert, former Sheriff Heinert, I can almost feel his blood pressure rising from here."
|
Heinert is the former sheriff of Burleigh County, and was visible on the legislative live stream, seated in the audience behind Magrum. When Ista referred to him, he could be seen visibly nodding his head. "Our law enforcement community has to sit through this as a member starts weeping about what our attorney general I think is rightfully characterized as 'unrepentant cop killers,'" Ista said.

"I could go on and on about how President Trump has seeded the ground for this anti-government mindset, right? The Proud Boys, the Oath Keepers, Posse Comitatus, they're all birds of a feather," he continued. "But this has been a deeply offensive presentation. I think we should all be calling on Senator Magrum to withdraw this bill."

Erik Slavin, editor-in-chief of the military newspaper that is partly funded by the Pentagon but has a long legacy of editorial independence, told The Associated Press that he and the others had received notices of separation.

The moves come at a time when the Trump administration, in its second term, has been increasingly aggressive and combative toward the news media — including sharply curtailing Pentagon access for the press corps that covers the Defense Department. Trump or other parts of the executive branch have also, in policy and in the courts, grappled with The Wall Street Journal, The Associated Press and The New York Times — in addition to using the FCC to target broadcast networks.
