Meet Jefferey
I was raised on a family farm near Hampden, North Dakota, where I learned the value of hard work, responsibility, and helping others from an early age. At 16 years old, I began working for a local John Deere dealership, gaining firsthand experience in the agricultural and mechanical industries that are so important to North Dakota communities.
I attended the University of North Dakota for three semesters before financial difficulties forced me to leave school. Afterward, I worked in the oil fields of western North Dakota before eventually returning to work at John Deere through 1991. Determined to finish what I started, I sold everything I owned and went back to school to complete my Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of North Dakota.
Today, I work as a Senior Process Engineer at Marvin, formerly known as Marvin Windows and Doors. My career has been built on problem-solving, perseverance, and a strong work ethic.
I am married to my wife, Jolene, and together we have two sons. Outside of work and public service, I enjoy spending time with my family, the outdoors, BBQ, and auction sales. Above all, I value helping others and giving back to my community.
Legislative Priorities
My message to fellow North Dakotans is: ‘Believe It Is Possible.’ This is a core value of the company I work for, and I believe that anything is possible for all of us in the great state of North Dakota.
I am running because, for too long, the current party in control of our state has not looked out for 90% of us. It is time to change that. We need to lift people up and provide opportunities for everyone to thrive.
The key focus areas for my campaign will be:
- Supporting North Dakota family farms that benefit our families and communities.
- Ensuring every child in the state has a safe place to learn and grow while their caregivers work.
- Making sure every person in the Valley has their basic needs met.
- Expanding access to quality healthcare services for every person in the Valley.
We have a beautiful state with many resources that should be benefiting the people who live and work here. Our public lands need to be protected, not exploited.
We have the opportunity to combine existing technologies such as wind, water, and solar power generation with proven energy sources to grow our energy sector responsibly.
I would work with others to draft legislation that helps provide basic healthcare needs. Why are so many citizens in North Dakota still in need of dental, vision, and hearing care? Our seniors deserve a dignified life and should not face bankruptcy after contributing to our state’s success throughout their lifetimes.
I believe what matters most to North Dakota voters is that their children have a brighter future than their parents. Families should not have to choose between medical care and groceries, daycare or rent. Raising a family in North Dakota should not be a burden. We can do much more to support working families.
Public money should stay in public schools. Teachers should earn a living wage, and they should not have to pay out of their own pockets to supply their classrooms.
Graduates of our high schools should have the opportunity to pursue higher education without being buried in debt. We also need to expand our excellent vocational and technical education systems to provide training for current and future job markets. North Dakota has so much to offer for all of our futures.
District 19 Information
North Dakota Legislative District 19 is a rural district in the northeastern part of the state along the Canadian border. It includes all of Pembina County and parts of Walsh County and Cavalier County, with communities such as Grafton, Park River, Cavalier, Drayton, and Walhalla. Home to about 17,000 residents, the district is rooted in agriculture and small-town values, with strong, close-knit communities. Like many rural areas, it faces challenges including access to affordable healthcare, workforce shortages, housing, and maintaining essential infrastructure – issues that are central to the future of District 19.
