We believe no child should go hungry in North Dakota! That's why North Dakota Democrats fought to provide school lunches to all public school students during the last legislative session.
Unfortunately, for many kids, school is the only place they get a nutritious hot meal. So what happens during the summer?

Thanks to President Joe Biden and his administration, 42,000 North Dakota students will have full bellies all summer. The USDA is launching the new, permanent summer grocery benefits program for children this year!

You’ll find two articles about this program in our newsletter today. More still needs to be done in North Dakota to combat food insecurity, but please share these articles with your friends and family so they know this is one more way that Democrats are delivering for American families!

Trygve Hammer shares his platform; running to replace Armstrong

“Right now they’re controlled by Republicans, by a Republican majority, and these are not Reagan Republicans. They’re controlled by a subset of Republican conference that has no reverence for the institution, no desire for dignity or decorum, no affinity for the truth, and they just don’t care about getting things done for the American people. It shows on the slim record of things that they accomplished over the last year. It’s been historically incompetent, probably the worst since the Great Depression, “said Hammer.

Bismarck lawmaker charged with conflict of interest crime

Court filings don’t name the property, but the criminal charge is tied to a Bismarck building owned by Stealth Properties LLC, Ladd Erickson, state’s attorney for McLean County, told the North Dakota Monitor. Dockter is a partial owner of the company.

The Dec. 21 complaint filed in Burleigh County is based on a statute that states “if as a public servant he takes official action which is likely to benefit him as a result of an acquisition of a pecuniary interest in any property, transaction, or enterprise, or of a speculation or wager, which he made, or caused or aided another to make, in contemplation of such official action.”

Created equal

I’m going to begin with one simple question: If President Biden, while being President, ordered the assassination of his top rival, Donald Trump, would he be subject to prosecution for murder? Of course the answer is yes. He should be treated no differently than any other individual in this country, because our President is equal to every other person in this country.

But that’s the argument Donald Trump is going up against in the courts and with the American people

Letter: As Thomas Jefferson warned us, the government we elect is the government we deserve

As Thomas Jefferson warned us, the government we elect is the government we deserve. Well, we deserve better. We deserve candidates that will lead with integrity and compassion. Candidates that are focused on serving their constituents and the State of North Dakota. Candidates that are team builders – able to work within and across the aisle to bring our communities back together – and ready to conduct the serious business of the people.

We can do better. But we need to hold our elected leaders accountable. And we need to vote for serious and reasonable candidates this election season. The future is up to us.

Judge orders new North Dakota legislative district for 2 Native American tribes

In an emailed statement, plaintiffs’ attorney Tim Purdon said the tribes welcome the ruling for the 2024 elections.

“The map that will be used in 2024 is the same Voting Right Act-compliant map the Tribes originally recommended to the Redistricting Committee and the full Legislature during the 2021 redistricting process,” he said. “The time has come for the Legislature and the Secretary of State to stop spending taxpayer dollars litigating against fair maps in North Dakota.”

Some Americans will get their student loans canceled in February as Biden accelerates his new plan

The Biden administration will start canceling student loans for some borrowers in February as part of a new repayment plan that’s taking effect nearly six months ahead of schedule.
Loan forgiveness was originally set to begin in July under the new SAVE repayment plan, but it’s being accelerated to provide faster relief to borrowers, President Joe Biden said Friday. It’s part of an effort “to act as quickly as possible to give more borrowers breathing room” and move on from their student debt, the Democratic president said in a statement.

Trump Is Coming for Obamacare Again

In 2017, when Trump and congressional Republicans tried and failed to repeal the ACA, also known as Obamacare, they faced the core contradiction that many of the law’s principal beneficiaries were people and institutions that favored the GOP. That list included lower-middle-income workers without college degrees, older adults in the final years before retirement, and rural communities.

Biden administration to provide summer grocery money to 21 million kids. Here's who qualifies.

More families with children experienced food insecurity in 2023 following the expiration of pandemic aid that had helped boost household budgets during the health crisis. The sharp rise in inflation during the past two years, which has made groceries 25% more costly compared with prior to the pandemic, has also caused financial strain for many low- and middle-income families.

"No child in this country should go hungry," Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack told the Associated Press. "They certainly shouldn't go hungry because they lose access to nutritious school meals during the summer months."
