It’s that time of year again—of an election year that is—district convention time! While the business of your district convention is important, it’s also a phenomenal opportunity to get to meet like-minded folks in your community!
|
All districts will elect delegates to the North Dakota Democratic-NPL State Convention, which will be April 4-7. Even-numbered districts and Districts 9 and 15 will nominate candidates for the North Dakota State House and Senate.

Become a delegate and participate in active democracy! We will officially nominate candidates for U.S. Senate, U.S. House, Governor & Lt. Governor, State Auditor, State Treasurer, Insurance Commissioner, and Public Service Commissioner. Most activities will happen on Friday and Saturday.

You can now request a ballot for the North Dakota Democratic Presidential Primary. Ballots can be requested at MRGballot.com.
|
Ballots will start being mailed out on February 20, and must be received by Saturday, March 30, 2024. Ballots requested before February 7 will go out on February 20, and requests after February 7 will be fulfilled as they come in.

North Dakota will send 19 delegates to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. This vote will determine the proportion of delegates pledged to each presidential candidate. Delegates to the National Convention will be elected at the North Dakota Democratic-NPL State Convention in Fargo on April 4-7.

Our District Reorganization and Candidate Endorsement Convention for Districts 3, 5, 38, and 40, is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 9th from 10AM-2PM at the IBEW Local 714 Hall (125 35th Ave NE, Minot, ND) in northwest Minot. Anyone who is a resident of District 3, 5, 38, or 40 who shares the ideals of the Dem-NPL is free to attend and participate. There are no party dues or other requirements for participation.
|
The purpose of our District Conventions is to elect new leadership for each Dem-NPL district organization, endorse candidates for the state legislature, and select delegates to attend the North Dakota Democratic-NPL State Convention. State Representative Joshua Boschee of Fargo will be in attendance as a guest speaker.
|
The leadership of each Dem-NPL district organization is tasked with the important work of organizing fellow Dem-NPLers in the district to help support our candidates up and down the ballot. District 38 and District 40 will be endorsing legislative candidates to represent the Dem-NPL in this year’s elections. Delegates will attend the Dem-NPL State Convention in Fargo from April 4-7 and vote on items like the party platform and statewide candidate endorsements, as well as have the opportunity to meet and socialize with Dem-NPLers from across the state.
|
We hope you'll join us to help bring balance and common-sense back to North Dakota's state government. The Democratic-NPL and citizens of North Dakota need bright, upstanding people of conscience to be involved now more than ever.

Jason Dockter, a Bismarck Republican. The project exceeded projected costs by more than $1.7 million.

“The voters want more transparency about the investments being made with their tax dollars,” Smith said.

The nonpartisan group was trying to encourage more women to run for elected office in 2018 and 2020 regardless of political party. In a post made in 2020, Olson stated that she knew the Democratic-NPL was looking for candidates in District 38 and she’d be willing to share contact numbers with them, if they were interested.

Letter: Exceptions are a lie: Rape survivors pay the price
This cruelty is found in North Dakota, with a rape “exception” that supposedly allows a pregnant person to get an abortion until around six weeks of pregnancy. But this is before most people know they’re pregnant. And even if someone knows they are pregnant, it often takes time and resources to get to an abortion appointment. In reality, this “exception” is useless at protecting survivors of rape. Just like this study shows.

O’Rourke, who served in Congress from 2013 to 2019 as a Democrat, stopped at Main Street Books to talk about polls and politics and take questions from the crowd of about 65 people filled the front of the store. He recalled his first visit to Minot’s Main Street in 1994 to perform with his punk rock band at the Minot Collective Cultural Center, where the band spent the night sleeping on the floor before heading to its next venue the following morning.

O’Rourke said he put Minot on his book tour because coming from El Paso – which he considers the most overlooked and misunderstood city in Texas – he wanted to acknowledge other cities that can get taken for granted.

Trump’s first criminal trial will start March 25, judge says
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has charged Trump with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records connected to the hush money payments, which Trump arranged through an intermediary in the closing weeks of the 2016 presidential campaign. The payments covered up Daniels’ allegation that she had a sexual encounter with Trump.

Bragg alleges that Trump falsified the payments in the Trump Organization’s corporate records and that he never reported the money on campaign finance documents as required.
|
The case is one of four criminal cases that Trump is facing as he barrels toward the Republican nomination. The trial schedules for the other three cases — two for attempting to overturn the 2020 election results and one for hoarding classified documents after he left office — remain unclear.

Alabama’s embryos ruling is a terrifying preview of another Trump presidency
In other anti-abortion developments, the Times reports that Trump allies are quietly plotting the resurrection of the Comstock Act — a dormant 1873 federal law that banned “obscene, lewd, lascivious, indecent, filthy, or vile article, matter, thing, device, or substance” — to criminalize the transport of abortion pills. That ambition could be extended to the 19th-century law’s original target: contraceptives. Doing so would require overturning the U.S. Supreme Court’s 1965 decision in Griswold v. Connecticut, which struck down state bans on the sale of contraceptives. That ruling has long been a target of Justice Clarence Thomas and members of the theocratic right.
