Running to Be Your Next North Dakota House Representative for District 43

Meet Lukas

I was born in Fargo, North Dakota, on December 26, 1996. During my childhood, my parents’ changing jobs caused our family to move around the area quite a bit before eventually settling in Fargo by the time I started school. My mom worked in the medical field, while my dad worked a variety of jobs and took on many coaching positions over the years.

Family has always been a major part of my life. My parents taught me the importance of kindness, curiosity, and treating others the way you want to be treated. Those values continue to guide me today.

I attended Fargo North High School, where I developed a love for learning that has stayed with me throughout my life. Even when school was challenging, I enjoyed discovering new things and pushing myself to grow. I was also active in sports, participating in baseball, football, hockey, and wrestling. Wrestling became my passion, and I continued competing in the sport into college.

I went on to earn my Bachelor of Science degree in Paralegal Studies from Minnesota State University Moorhead in a highly competitive program. Pursuing a legal education had been a lifelong goal of mine, and it gave me the opportunity to build a career helping people navigate the often complicated legal system. I have now worked as a professional paralegal for several years, continuing to grow my knowledge while helping others through difficult situations.

My work history has been broad and varied, and each experience has taught me valuable lessons about people and community. I have worked in child care caring for young children during the summers, worked in an agricultural chemical warehouse to help pay my way through college, and held a variety of sales and service jobs. In one of those roles, I became a manager and learned how to responsibly lead and support others.

These experiences introduced me to people from many walks of life and gave me a deeper understanding of the different ways people work hard to provide for themselves and their families. I have been fortunate to meet so many incredible people along the way, and those experiences continue to shape my perspective.

Back in college, I was inspired to run for office at the age of 21. That decision was driven by the same desire that motivates me today: helping people and making sure their voices are heard in the halls of power. While that campaign was unsuccessful, it taught me invaluable lessons about leadership, service, and perseverance that I still carry with me.

Today, I find myself running for office again for many of the same reasons and with the same passion as before, but now as a husband, a new father, and a fellow neighbor who wants to help build a better future for our community.

If elected, I hope to continue learning from the people I serve, listening to their experiences, and working every day to make their lives better than they were yesterday.

Legislative Priorities

Why Am I Running?

To be the change we need to see. Too often these days, politicians treat empathy and collectivism as negative partisan beliefs, but that is not the world I was raised in.

I was taught to help your neighbor shovel snow in the winter, say hello to the people you pass on the street, and watch the house or collect the mail for the nice snowbird couple down the block. We cannot get by in this world alone, yet for years our politics have tried to convince us to fear each other and shut down those human connections. We are stronger together than we will ever be apart.

We face a wide range of challenges, but in this campaign, I have chosen a few key issues to highlight:

  1. Strengthening public education and supporting educators
  2. Reducing the influence of money in state government to increase transparency and accountability
  3. Addressing housing affordability to ensure more North Dakotans can build stable lives in their communities

By focusing on these issues, I hope to invest in our state’s future and restore some level of trust in our democracy by showing that it is an expression of the people within it, not just a tool for wealthy and corporate interests.

District 43 Map

District 43, as pictured, includes a large portion of Grand Forks, is a younger and fast-moving community shaped in large part by the presence of the University of North Dakota. About 16,000 people live in the district, and the median age is just under 30, making it one of the younger areas in the state. The median household income is around $46,000. The poverty rate is higher than the state average, largely because of the number of college students living in the area. Most households have access to reliable broadband internet, and the district is made up of a mix of students, working families, and long-time residents.

Endorsements from organizations and community leaders will be announced as our campaign continues to build – stay tuned!
