Meet Chris

I’m Dr. Chris Tiongson, a pediatrician, husband and father and I’m running for the North Dakota House in District 41. I grew up in Grand Forks and have dedicated my career to caring for children, supporting families, and serving North Dakota communities. I graduated from Red River High School before earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Georgetown University. After college, I returned home to North Dakota to attend the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences, where I earned my medical degree.

Following medical school, I completed my pediatric residency and served as Chief Resident at Children’s Mercy Hospital. Since 2002, I have practiced as a pediatrician and educator in Fargo, caring for generations of children while helping mentor future healthcare professionals.

My wife and I have been married for 33 years, and we are proud parents of two grown children. Outside of medicine and public service, I enjoy music, literature, art, and bass fishing from my kayak on the lakes and rivers throughout the region.

Legislative Priorities

In my nearly 30-year career in pediatrics, I’ve seen so many great advances in medical science that have helped my patients and my own family. And I’ve also seen how policies and societal factors outside the exam room harm the health of our kids. So, that’s why I’m running…for the kids.

My top priorities are:

  1. Working for healthy kids and healthy communities using common sense and science to prevent diseases and injuries. Health isn’t just physical. I will seek to reduce the barriers to accessing mental health care for all our neighbors and work to prevent suicide.
  2. I will prioritize public education so that our teachers and students have what they need to succeed, including universal school meals.
  3. A healthy community also needs a healthy economy with opportunities for our graduates to enter the work force, learn a trade, or go to college. And when that next generation is ready to start a family, we need to have affordable housing and childcare in a growing economy that everyone feels.

District 41 Information

North Dakota’s District 41 is located in southwest Fargo and includes a mix of established neighborhoods and newer, fast-growing areas. The district is largely residential, with nearby access to schools, parks, and local businesses that serve a growing population of families and professionals.

As part of Fargo, District 41 reflects both the stability of longtime residents and the energy of new growth. This brings opportunities, along with challenges like housing, childcare, and infrastructure, that are important to the people who live and work in the district.
