What to expect during North Dakota’s 2025 legislative session


Approximately 82% of North Dakotans are in favor of providing free school meals to all children, according to a poll conducted by the North Dakota News Cooperative.

Though legislation related to free school lunch hasn’t been posted yet, coalitions like “Together for School Meals” have formed to encourage lawmakers to budget $140 million in state funding over the next two years to provide all students with free school meals — breakfast and lunch.

North Dakota tribal speech: Missing, murdered Indigenous bill, education among top priorities


Alkire said that among her biggest priorities were a bill that would create an alert for missing and murdered Indigenous people in North Dakota -- an issue she said was of “epidemic proportions” -- and garnering funding for Senate Bill 2304, passed into law during the 2021 session. The law ensures greater understanding of Native American history and culture in the classroom.
Alkire said Rep. Jayme Davis, D-Rolette, plans to spearhead the missing and murdered Indigenous people bill.

Poll: North Dakotans support free school lunches, sour on public dollars for private tuition


The poll released on Monday, sponsored by North Dakota United, an education and public employee union, showed 81% of respondents supported property tax reforms. Seventy-nine percent of those surveyed also support universal free school meals and 67% hold some support for increasing public education funding in the state.
