Port: Legislative candidate considering filing restraining order against opponent after threatening messages

The erratic behavior didn't stop there. "Regardless how this election ends, you've picked a fight. This won't end 11/5," Meyer wrote in a 1:09am direct message to Thorson's private Facebook account, referring to Election Day. "I've done nothing to you, but I won't forget. Here's to your stupidity."

In a separate message, sent to Thorson's campaign profile, Meyer wrote, "My friends hate you. You talk too much amigo."

"I haven't said s**t about you but my special operators but my special operators know you. Enjoy," he continued, linking to what appears to be a Wikipedia entry about special military forces. "They don't enjoy being called out. Especially like betas like you."

Door-knocking turns ugly for Grand Forks campaign volunteer

Threatening messages seemed to be coming from every which way, something Thorson said is completely unacceptable.

“At the end of the day, political violence has no place in our society at all, and I don’t really know what caused him to send all of this. My suspicion is because I’ve been calling him out for his votes last session, which I don’t agree with, which is just what politics is!”

With Election Day so close, Thorson is reminding you to be kind, no matter which party is involved.

He said, “I need both Republicans and Democrats in order to win, so I hope we can find effective dialogue and move forward together.”

Wilkie has made her position on the Summit pipeline clear.

“I don’t agree with taking waste from five states,” Wilkie said. “I don’t like North Dakota being used as an environmental sacrifice zone, and, in my opinion, that’s happening.”

The project by Iowa-based Summit would capture carbon emissions from ethanol plants in five states. The carbon dioxide would be sent by pipeline to western North Dakota for permanent underground storage.

Port: Resigned election coordinator said Burleigh County auditor wasn't attending meetings

Splonskowski has made an unusual number of headlines for a county auditor. Last year, he worked with an advocacy group that has promoted Trump's stolen election lies to sue the State of North Dakota, claiming that a state law allows ballots received after Election Day to be counted as long as they're postmarked by Election Day. A federal judge tossed the suit in February.

Candidates bring new voices to District 38 House race

“I want to see a legislature that can work together with both sides, get things done and really put the heart of the issues that are impacting North Dakotans first,” she said at a candidate event earlier this month.

Hermosillo said she has been reaching out to the GOP with the understanding that respect and a willingness to find a common ground are the key to working with the majority party.
“I think I could see us getting things done. And it just starts with having those discussions with current legislators and leaders and talking to a lot of Republican voters as well,” she said.

“But to be effective is sticking to your values, not being afraid to rock the boat. We are rocking the boat by just running,” she said of Democrats.

23 Nobel Prize-winning economists call Harris’ economic plan ‘vastly superior’ to Trump’s

The contrast between the two candidates on the economy is central to the messages both campaigns are pushing in the final days of the race.

For the signatories of the letter, Harris’ message is the clear preference.
“Simply put, Harris’s policies will result in a stronger economic performance, with economic growth that is more robust, more sustainable, and more equitable,” the economists write.

President Biden to apologize for 150-year Indian boarding school policy

The White House said Biden believes that “to usher in the next era of the Federal-Tribal relationships we need to fully acknowledge the harms of the past.”

“In making this apology, the President acknowledges that we as a people who love our country must remember and teach our full history, even when it is painful. And we must learn from that history so that it is never repeated,” its statement said.

The forced assimilation policy launched by Congress in 1819 as an effort to “civilize” Native Americans ended in 1978 after the passage of wide-ranging law, the Indian Child Welfare Act, which was primarily focused on giving tribes a say in who adopted their children.

Trump often praised Hitler, Nazi generals, says ex-White House Chief of Staff John Kelly

Former President Donald Trump repeatedly praised Adolf Hitler and other dictators while in office, ex-White House Chief of Staff John Kelly says in a new interview in which he calls the GOP presidential candidate an authoritarian who fits the “general definition of a fascist.”

Kelly went on the record with an audiotaped recollection of Trump’s remarks that the Nazi dictator did some positive things for Germany, the New York Times reported late Tuesday.
“He commented more than once that, ‘You know, Hitler did some good things, too,’” Kelly said of Trump, who “certainly” aimed to rule the U.S. as a strongman like the dictators he admires.

“Certainly the former president is in the far-right area, he’s certainly an authoritarian, admires people who are dictators — he has said that,” Kelly said. “So he certainly falls into the general definition of fascist, for sure.”

“The revelations General Kelly brought forward are disturbing and shocking. But because we know Trump and have worked for and alongside him, we were sadly not surprised by what General Kelly had to say,” the letter states.

Harris makes new push for rural voters

Harris-Walz director of rural outreach Matt Hildreth says the campaign is committed to reaching rural voters. According to him, organizers have been building relationships and learning about important issues for more than a year. Those issues include support for agriculture and small businesses, better healthcare and expanded rural broadband. Hildreth emphasizes that Harris and Walz both come from large agricultural states and recognized the challenges farmers face.
“They both understand that rural voters are the foundation of our country, and they want rural voters to know that they have a home in their campaign - that is fundamentally about patriotism, freedom and opportunity,” Hildreth says.

Trump's rambling speeches raise questions about mental decline

If he wins the election, Donald Trump would be the oldest president ever elected. Amna Nawaz discussed those concerns with author and clinical psychologist Dr. Ben Michaelis.

Kamala Harris for president

Harris was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2016 and became the first female vice president in 2020. As President Joe Biden’s No. 2, she cast a record number of tie-breaking votes in a polarized Senate, including for the nearly $2 trillion American Rescue Plan and the Inflation Reduction Act.

The American Rescue Plan contributed to inflation but also enabled the U.S. economy to bounce back faster and stronger from the pandemic than any other industrialized nation, while the Inflation Reduction Act added hundreds of thousands of green energy jobs and spurred infrastructure projects in every state.

By any fair measure, Biden deserves credit for leading the country back to normalcy following the economic collapse caused by the pandemic, Trump’s chaotic mismanagement, and complot to overturn the 2020 election.
