Minot activist joins march for equal rights for women

“Being part of the march is important to me because the reality is that in the United States, women and girls are not yet legally guaranteed equal rights. We are behind,” Dykeman said. “The constitutions of 168 other countries include gender equality and ours should too.”

Organizers estimated more than 200 activists from across the country attended the march, passing copies of the Constitution from person to person along the path, said Dykesman, the only participant from North Dakota.

Letter: Fedorchak misreading ND attitudes about returning to oil, gas development

While 79% support the state fighting to preserve oil and gas production, 63% also support environmental protections.
These results do not suggest a mandate to return to unfettered and unregulated oil and gas development. Fedorchak would do well to listen to her constituents on these matters.

Tribune editorial: Both chambers need rules to nix conflicts

The House made one change before approving the rules -- lawmakers with a personal or private interest on a bill must have a direct, individual and unique benefit over members of the general public to be considered conflicted. House Assistant Minority Leader Zachary Ista, D-Grand Forks, argued this weakened the rules.
The Tribune Editorial Board agrees. It raises the bar for what’s a conflict.

Tom Vilsack Says Mass Deportations May Be ‘Devastating’ for Agriculture at IOP Forum

Asked about Donald Trump’s promise to pursue mass deportations during his second term, Vilsack pointed to the role immigrants have in American farming.

“If, in fact, there were mass deportations, there is no industry, in my view, that would be more significantly impacted than agriculture,” Vilsack said.

Vilsack also expressed frustration over political disagreements that have stalled legislation like the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2024, which includes funding for agricultural research and farming risk management tools, as well as access to nutrition for low-income families, conservation program availability, and trade development.

An Army veteran and former Fox News commentator, Hegseth has been trying to make his case amid allegations of excessive drinking and the revelation that he made a settlement payment after being accused of a sexual assault that he denies. North Carolina GOP lawmakers enact a law eroding the Democratic governor's powers

Many provisions within the 132-page law seek to diminish powers afforded to Gov.-elect Josh Stein, incoming attorney general Jeff Jackson, the next Democratic lieutenant governor and the schools superintendent. They all take office early next month. One of the most significant changes shifts the power to appoint State Board of Elections members from the governor to the state auditor, who will be a Republican next year.

What Christopher Wray’s Resignation Costs Us

By stepping down voluntarily, Wray opens up a bunch of pathways for Trump to immediately install a loyalist as acting director under the Federal Vacancies Reform Act, which governs who gets to serve as the acting head of agencies. Because of this resignation, under the FVRA, Trump can shift some other Senate-confirmed appointee to the FBI. Or he can pluck some obscure loyalist from the upper ranks of the agency and elevate them to acting director while the Kash Patel nomination is pending in the Senate. There are hundreds of people in the upper ranks of the FBI who are eligible, under the statute, to be made acting director. Trump could find the one who swears the most fidelity and loyalty to MAGA and put him in charge of the agency. I’m sure there’s someone waiting in the wings who had made his allegiance to Trump clear, just waiting to be elevated to the top of the FBI. And now that can happen.
