Port: MAGA-aligned legislative candidate's outreach to new Americans is jarring to some
The wing of the NDGOP that includes former state Sen. Oley Larsen, who once made false claims on social media suggesting that Somali-born Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar was trained by al Qaeda, and current Rep. Jim Kasper, who tried to explain away a long history of anti-Muslim social media posts as the result of his account being hacked. He did this not once but twice.
|
Hendrix has spent years as an activist — including as a local NDGOP district chair in Minot and Fargo — working for the defeat of moderate Republicans and the election of a far-right brand of Republicans who, while not necessarily monolithic in their views, can fairly be described as generally hostile to immigrants and refugee resettlement. He's traveled the state, attending local NDGOP district meetings and promoting some of the furthest-right candidates in North Dakota.

Public – and some lawmakers – shut out from discussion of school choice legislation
Hager further pressed for an explanation about why the task force would not be required to meet open meeting requirements.
|
“It applies to school boards. It applies to most entities in the state, but not this particular task force that would restructure the entire education of the state of North Dakota?” Hager asked.

Holmberg case prompts North Dakota lawmakers to review travel policies
Holmberg admitted in federal court in Fargo there was enough evidence to support the charge of traveling with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct. A prosecutor said Holmberg took 14 trips to Prague between 2011 and 2021 with the intent of paying for sex with boys under 18. Holmberg told the judge he did not engage in that conduct when traveling to other countries.

One week until the Democratic National Convention: Could North Dakota Democratic politicians address the convention?
“I don’t want to say any names, but there have been a few talks about a few folks being asked to prepare for potential speeches for next week. I guess I would say, stay tuned for that. Certainly, I would hope so, I know over the past, we’ve had a few North Dakotans speak at a convention and it’s incredibly exciting to have someone represent our state that way. I’m hoping to see a name or two from North Dakota up there, whether it be Senator Heidkamp or someone else. I won’t be surprised to see somebody, I’ll put it that way,” said Selzler.

Child sex tourism fuels demand for human trafficking, expert says
Americans who purchase sex while traveling abroad need to recognize their role in promoting human trafficking, she said.
|
“If U.S. citizens did not travel abroad with the goal of buying young flesh, there would not be this problem of child sex trafficking,” Cohen said. “We have a responsibility to stop the demand and shut down this market, because as long as it’s profitable, traffickers will continue to sell children’s bodies.”

My time for choosing: I’m a Republican and I’m endorsing Harris and Walz
Harris is qualified, capable and committed to the country’s best interests. While I may disagree with her on many policy issues, I do not doubt her love for this country or her dedication to its institutions.
|
I watched Walz go from congressman to governor, and I have come to respect him. He embodies a joyful politics that serves as a welcome reprieve from the divisiveness that has become so prevalent in our political discourse.

The War on Drug Prices Is Just Getting Started
On Thursday, the Biden administration announced that it had negotiated down the cost of the 10 most costly drugs covered by Medicare in a landmark deal. Once the reduced prices are enacted, in 2026, patients are expected to spend billions less out of pocket—as is the US government.
|
Meanwhile, Kamala Harris is speaking in North Carolina and elsewhere to push a new slate of economic policies, including aggressive action on price gouging, medical expenses, and the rising cost of living. What are the natural next steps for Democrats to build on the momentum of the White House’s Medicare deal?
