Former North Dakota Democratic U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp posted the following on X:
|
“Couldn’t be happier that @KamalaHarris selected my friend & neighbor to the East, @Tim_Walz. He’s a champion for rural communities & knows that you shouldn’t have to leave home to get an education, receive care or make a living. Nice that he’s a fellow hot dish aficionado, too.”
|
Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Katrina Christiansen posted this on X:
|
“Rural America will never be forgotten with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz on the Democratic ticket. Shoutout to my fellow midwesterner on your selection, and let’s bring it home this November!”

Tim Walz depicted as rural champion at Farmfest by Heidi Heitkamp and Peggy Flanagan
Heitkamp said she met Walz during her first couple weeks in Congress.
|
"I got to meet him traveling back and forth on the plane from D.C. to the Twin Cities, and I tell people my first impression was that I've known him all my life," Heitkamp said. "He's like everybody else that I grew up with. Every social studies teacher, every person who makes communities work."

North Dakota Democrats view Walz as ‘champion’ for rural America
State House Minority Leader Rep. Zachary Ista, D-Grand Forks, said Walz seems to have a “down-to-earth, Midwest demeanor,” that he thinks will play well on the Harris ticket this fall.
|
Vice President Harris named Walz her running mate on Tuesday after officially becoming the Democrats’ nominee for president.
|
“You can really see how effective of a football coach he must have been,” Ista said. “He’s just a guy you really want to run through the wall for because he really motivates you both through his words and as governor through his actions.”

In Grand Forks visit, Trygve Hammer tells supporters he’s listening and will fight for the state in Congress
“We’re just hearing this discontent with scandal at the state government level,” Hammer said. “And this feeling that big business can come into the state and want something and (big business is) going to be able to take it from you, and they’re going to roll right over your resistance because no one’s fighting for them.”

The Fabric of America
Her post was such a slap to all who have fought for access and fairness in women’s sports. Has Fedorchak nothing better to do? This keyboard false witnessing distracts us from the real issues that need our attention: making Social Security solvent, passing the Farm Bill, making homes affordable for middle-class Americans, and lifting children out of poverty.
|
I am running because public leaders who dunk on the defenseless and spin stories for self-gain should be kicked out of the game. Our leaders should help us embrace our shared humanity, recognize the value of every individual, and work together to build a better, more inclusive society. They should aim to strengthen the fabric of American pluralism. Instead, my opponent has joined the tribe broadcasting intolerance, seeking to destroy it.

FULL: Gov. Walz speaks at campaign rally after being announced as Harris' VP pick
Newly minted Democratic vice presidential candidate Gov. Tim Walz makes his first speech at Philadelphia campaign rally.
|
|
|
Walz, Throwing Punches at Republicans, Makes His Big Entrance With Harris
“Tim Walz was the kind of teacher and mentor that every child in America dreams of having and that every kid deserves,” the vice president said. “The kind of coach — because he’s the kind of person — who makes people feel like they belong and then inspires them to dream big. And that’s the kind of vice president he will be. And that’s the kind of vice president America deserves.”

‘Mind your own damn business’: Harris, Walz make debut at rowdy rally
Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz cast their partnership as a shield for everyday freedoms against the whims of a potential Donald Trump second term during their debut rally together in the crucial swing state of Pennsylvania.
|
“We’ve got some work to do. We need to move to the general election and win that,” the vice president said Tuesday to cheers in a raucous Philadelphia university arena as she introduced the running mate she’d named earlier in the day. “We also need to level-set, we are the underdog in this race. … I know what we are up against.”

"Bringing back the joy": Kamala Harris' rally blows away JD Vance's weird appearance across town
Meanwhile, the Harris/Walz rally felt like a rousing speech by Coach Eric Taylor of "Friday Night Lights" combined with the front row at Coachella. The cheers were so loud that I regretted not bringing my earplugs. The mood was jubilant, even though folks had to wait hours in the heat and humidity to even get into the place. The campaign claimed over 12,000 people showed up, which is not an exaggeration. Even as Harris and Walz gave the final speeches of the evening, the line to get into the overflow room — just to watch the event on TV — went on for multiple city blocks.

Rural Democrats Urge Sense of Humor, Respect, and Showing Up
Anderson Clayton, North Carolina’s Democratic Party chairperson, said rural Democrats can point to the accomplishments of the Biden and Harris administration in delivering broadband, infrastructure, and other programs that benefit rural communities.
|
“Right now [there are some who] may be feeling scared to say and to stand up in their rural town or in their small town and say that they’re a Democrat,” Clayton said. “You don’t need to be afraid. … Look fear in the face. Look Republicans in the face. And say, ‘we’re not backing down. No way, no how.’”

Lawrence: 'Stupidest' candidate Trump did not answer reporters' questions
Donald Trump rambled and lied for over an hour without any follow up questions or fact-checking. MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell says that while he hopes Vice President Harris answers questions from reporters, after the press conference that Donald Trump turned into a “charade,” Vice President Harris has “absolutely no greater obligation to do so because of what Donald Trump pretended to do today.”
