Prosecutor could take next step on deleted attorney general emails by end of month
The deletion of Stenehjem’s emails was discovered after North Dakota media requested public records related to the Attorney General’s Office’s building project, which included several business deals involving Rep. Jason Dockter, a Bismarck Republican. The project exceeded projected costs by more than $1.7 million.

Letter: Exceptions are a lie: Rape survivors pay the price
This cruelty is found in North Dakota, with a rape “exception” that supposedly allows a pregnant person to get an abortion until around six weeks of pregnancy. But this is before most people know they’re pregnant. And even if someone knows they are pregnant, it often takes time and resources to get to an abortion appointment. In reality, this “exception” is useless at protecting survivors of rape. Just like this study shows.

McFeely: Crypto CEO touted by Gov. Burgum was once arrested on suspicion of murder
"This is fantastic news for Cavalier County and our entire state, putting this iconic pyramid on the prairie to innovative use and further solidifying North Dakota’s status as a global hub for data center development," Burgum said in a statement at the time. "We are deeply grateful for Bitzero’s significant investment in our state."

‘The fight will never be over’
O’Rourke, who served in Congress from 2013 to 2019 as a Democrat, stopped at Main Street Books to talk about polls and politics and take questions from the crowd of about 65 people filled the front of the store. He recalled his first visit to Minot’s Main Street in 1994 to perform with his punk rock band at the Minot Collective Cultural Center, where the band spent the night sleeping on the floor before heading to its next venue the following morning.
|
O’Rourke said he put Minot on his book tour because coming from El Paso – which he considers the most overlooked and misunderstood city in Texas – he wanted to acknowledge other cities that can get taken for granted.

Biden has forgiven $136 billion in student debt. More relief is on the way
The Biden administration is also working to revise its broad forgiveness plan to make it legally viable.
|
To do so, it has sought to narrow the aid by focusing on certain groups, including those with balances greater than what they originally borrowed and students from schools of questionable quality. Borrowers experiencing “financial hardship” may also get loan cancellation, although it’s unclear how this category will be defined.

Trump allies prepare to infuse ‘Christian nationalism’ in second administration
One document drafted by CRA staff and fellows includes a list of top priorities for CRA in a second Trump term. “Christian nationalism” is one of the bullet points. Others include invoking the Insurrection Act on Day One to quash protests and refusing to spend authorized congressional funds on unwanted projects, a practice banned by lawmakers in the Nixon era.
|
CRA’s work fits into a broader effort by conservative, MAGA-leaning organizations to influence a future Trump White House. Two people familiar with the plans, who were granted anonymity to discuss internal matters, said that Vought hopes his proximity and regular contact with the former president — he and Trump speak at least once a month, according to one of the people — will elevate Christian nationalism as a focal point in a second Trump term.

Biden blasts Alabama Supreme Court's IVF ruling as Harris, campaign blame Trump
“Today, in 2024 in America, women are being turned away from emergency rooms and forced to travel hundreds of miles for health care, while doctors fear prosecution for providing an abortion. And now, a court in Alabama put access to some fertility treatments at risk for families who are desperately trying to get pregnant,” Biden said. “The disregard for women’s ability to make these decisions for themselves and their families is outrageous and unacceptable.”

Fight or flight: Fearful Trump critics weigh the risk of retribution if he's re-elected
A natural assumption would be that the targets of Trump’s ire are Democrats or political rivals who tried to beat him at the ballot box. But it’s not quite so simple. History shows there are all sorts of ways to leave Trump aggrieved, and some who feel they’re in jeopardy worked directly with him or believed in his agenda. Once snugly inside Trump’s orbit, they may have provoked him by doing their jobs as they understood them or speaking candidly about what they considered his failings.

Pennsylvania Democrats kept suburbs, gained rural voters
After Joe Biden eked out victory in Pennsylvania in 2020, Democrats in hugely consequential races for governor and U.S. Senate scored blowout wins by comparison in Tuesday’s election.
|
They ran up the score again in leftward-shifting suburbs and cut losses in rural and exurban stretches where former President Donald Trump is popular.

Trump’s first criminal trial will start March 25, judge says
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has charged Trump with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records connected to the hush money payments, which Trump arranged through an intermediary in the closing weeks of the 2016 presidential campaign. The payments covered up Daniels’ allegation that she had a sexual encounter with Trump.
|
Bragg alleges that Trump falsified the payments in the Trump Organization’s corporate records and that he never reported the money on campaign finance documents as required.
|
The case is one of four criminal cases that Trump is facing as he barrels toward the Republican nomination. The trial schedules for the other three cases — two for attempting to overturn the 2020 election results and one for hoarding classified documents after he left office — remain unclear.

Alabama’s embryos ruling is a terrifying preview of another Trump presidency
In other anti-abortion developments, the Times reports that Trump allies are quietly plotting the resurrection of the Comstock Act — a dormant 1873 federal law that banned “obscene, lewd, lascivious, indecent, filthy, or vile article, matter, thing, device, or substance” — to criminalize the transport of abortion pills. That ambition could be extended to the 19th-century law’s original target: contraceptives. Doing so would require overturning the U.S. Supreme Court’s 1965 decision in Griswold v. Connecticut, which struck down state bans on the sale of contraceptives. That ruling has long been a target of Justice Clarence Thomas and members of the theocratic right.
