North Dakota judge vacates state abortion ban, ruling it unconstitutional
Meanwhile, North Dakota’s Democratic-NPL Party called the ruling a “victory for women’s reproductive rights.”
“North Dakotans deserve the freedom to make deeply personal health care decisions without interference from government extremists,” Rep. Karla Rose Hanson, D-Fargo, said in a statement. “This law was especially cruel for victims of sexual violence — providing a rape and incest exception but only within six weeks, before most women know they’re pregnant.”
Democrats oppose ND Attorney General's request for more litigation funding
“Warnings were made last session when we passed extreme legislation that restricted access to health care. If the risks to women in the state weren’t enough to get you to oppose that, the dollars and cents cost to the state should’ve been enough to get you to oppose that,” Ista said. “We are now seeing that the Attorney General has to come back and ask for millions more spending authority of its reserves to litigate these extreme cases.”

North Dakota Senate Candidate Katrina Christiansen Condemns Corporate Price Gouging
“The number one concern I hear on the campaign trail is the price of groceries,” Christiansen said. “Families need to feed themselves, but at this most vulnerable time, it seems that corporations are more interested in making an extra buck than addressing this serious problem.”

Dem-NPL candidates push for change in GOP-stronghold state
Hammer underscored the need to connect with all voters, regardless of their political stance. He recounted personal experiences where conservative voters have crossed party lines to support him.

"I've had several Republicans tell me, 'You got my vote,' " he said, detailing one instance where a man selling Donald Trump T-shirts declared his support.

OB-GYN fears, maternity deserts impact health care in North Dakota
Dr. Ana Tobiasz, a maternal-fetal specialist at Sanford Health in Bismarck, said she has contemplated leaving the state because of the state’s abortion ban.
The near total ban on abortions in the state went into effect in late April 2023, which prohibits all abortions except for when the health of the mother is at risk or in cases of rape or incest, but only within the first six weeks of pregnancy.
The initial language of the law was amended to allow terminations of ectopic pregnancies, where a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus and would never lead to a birth.
“The changes that were made were really important, otherwise I would have left immediately,” Tobiasz said.

Former legislator to receive Spirit of the NPL award
“He is proud of his NPL roots as the organization was always for the people and against the big corporations, the banks, the insurance companies and the millers. The NPL exists to give the people a fair shot,” said Mark Nelson, Marvin’s brother.

Armstrong, Piepkorn face off in first debate for North Dakota governor
Piepkorn said he wouldn’t have signed half of the “culture war” bills that Burgum did.
“It seemed like he was playing politics,” Piepkorn said.
The bills seemed to come from out-of-state influencers, he said. He noted libraries found few books that needed to be moved from the children’s section or the library.
“In some of these things, they are making an issue out of something that is not an issue," he added.
Piepkorn also criticized legislation that puts a near-total ban on abortions in the state, though he didn’t know how he would roll it back.
When asked if there were bills he would have vetoed that Burgum signed, Armstrong said he didn’t know because he doesn’t know what the governor was thinking, nor has he researched the bills.
“I haven’t read any of the bills,” Armstrong said. “I haven’t read a single one.”

North Dakota’s 2 Native lawmakers say they need tribal support in legislative session
The Rolette Democrat joined Rep. Lisa Finley-DeVille, D-Mandaree, for a presentation on the legislative process Wednesday morning at United Tribes Technical College’s Tribal Leaders Summit. Davis and DeVille are the only two Native lawmakers in the statehouse.
Because of this — and the fact that both are relatively new to the Legislature — it’s difficult to get most state lawmakers to understand the needs of Native North Dakotans, Davis said.

The debate between Harris and Trump wasn’t close — and 4 other takeaways
With a more-than-competent performance from Harris Tuesday, Trump’s lies, meandering, conspiracies and often general incoherence was made even more glaring.
He wandered through conspiracies about, not just the election, but also about who is currently president (Joe Biden), the usual about immigrants who (aren’t actually) coming from “mental institutions and insane asylums” and the newly unusual (and debunked) about immigrants who (are not) “eating the dogs” or “cats.”
Trump got the conspiracy wrong, though, because it was about ducks, not dogs.

Former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney Endorses Kamala Harris For President
“It is crucially important for people to recognize, not only is what I said about the danger that Trump poses something that should prevent people from voting for him, but I don’t believe that we have the luxury of writing in candidates’ names — particularly in swing states,” Cheney said at an event at Duke University, in the battleground state of North Carolina.

How Russian operatives covertly hired U.S. influencers to create viral videos
Tenet publicly launched in November 2023 with six contributors well-known in right-wing media, including Benny Johnson, Tim Pool, David Rubin and Lauren Southern. The videos they create for Tenet regularly cover conservative staples including "migrant gangs," transgender people, online censorship and attacks on Vice President Harris and President Biden.
"While the views expressed in the videos are not uniform, the subject matter and content of the videos are often consistent with the Government of Russia's interest in amplifying U.S. domestic divisions in order to weaken U.S. opposition to core Government of Russia interests, such as its ongoing war in Ukraine," the indictment says.

Florida’s abortion law almost killed my wife
I called Anya’s mom and dad and her sisters. I opened a Bible and just went into a trance. I prayed. I spent the rest of the hours praying with our family and with the hospital staff.
There’s such a huge difference between hearing about abortion laws and having to live them. Before this, I can honestly say that I never used to think much about abortion. I just figured that, if that’s what someone wanted to do, they should be able to do it.
But when that 15-week ban came down in Florida, we got caught in it. And then, they turned around and told us 15 weeks wasn’t enough – now they implemented a 6-week ban.

Far-right activist Laura Loomer's access to Trump reveals a crisis in his campaign
They lost that battle this week, as Loomer traveled on Trump’s jet to his debate with Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday and to Sept. 11 memorial services Wednesday. Her presence at the latter infuriated some Democrats and Republicans because one of the many conspiracy theories she has promoted is the false notion that the terrorist assault on the U.S. was an “inside job.” It wasn’t.
