What is a delegate to the national convention? Bismarck Democratic delegate explains
“It’s a huge honor to become a delegate to the national convention, but it can also be a little nerve-wracking because you’re going to Chicago, you don’t have a lot of control over your own schedule while you’re there, you’re taking buses around the city, you’re going to multiple locations, and you have different events every night,” said Selzler.

Letter: A cabinet post for Burgum would not be a source of pride
This is not about feelings about Trump. This is about fact and documented behavior. Trump’s Republican party is grossly abnormal. Ask the Herald to stop ignoring recent history and normalizing the abnormal. As to Burgum being a role model? Not so much.

Plain Talk: 'There's a new pep in our step'

Viewpoint: Book bans are more than just empty shelves
Being able to learn about and engage with new ideas, especially those we may disagree with, is foundational to any healthy democracy. Censoring books by limiting people’s access to them does more than suppress the subject matter – it also disregards the lived experiences and identities of authors and readers. If community members don’t want to engage with certain ideas or topics – or let their kids engage with certain ideas or topics – they don’t have to, but they don’t have the right to impose their beliefs on others.

Letter: We should take their word for it
When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time (M. Angelou). Trump promised to overturn Roe, and he did. The consequences have been borne on the backs of child rape victims fleeing their homes to seek health care in other states, and by women like Kate Cox who, due to Texas’ abortion ban, was denied care for 3 days after her water broke at 18 weeks. She became septic, nearly died, and suffered irreparable damage to her reproductive system.

Port: Trump's racial comments were no joke, Sen. Cramer
But it's not a joke. Trump wasn't joking. It wasn't satire, the definition of which is, "the use of humor, irony, exaggeration or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues."
|
What stupidity or vice is Harris guilty of in this context? Being born to two immigrant parents, one Black and one Indian?
|
Do you know what we call people who make jokes about that sort of thing?

Former President Trump has revived his oldest political instincts – by questioning whether Vice President Harris is actually Black at NABJ. Senate GOP blocks bipartisan bill to expand child tax credit
Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) hammered the point about Republicans voting down a tax cut on the Senate floor Thursday.
|
“The next time that I hear them talking about the need to cut taxes, I’m going to ask my colleagues how did you vote today? How did you vote when you had an opportunity to provide tax relief for ordinary people? Maybe the issue is not so much tax cuts — as for whom?” he said.

Counties most in need of cardiologists are the most likely to have none
Since January 2005, 192 rural hospitals nationwide have closed or converted to facilities that do not provide inpatient care, according to the North Carolina Rural Health Research Program. George H. Pink, the program’s deputy director, said many factors have been driving the hospital closures, including declining populations in certain areas, large numbers of uninsured patients, outdated medical technology and severe financial struggles.

“There’s a statement and I don’t know who said it, but I use it all the time: ‘Your Zip code tells more about your health outcomes than your genetic code,’ ” Harrington said. “And that’s certainly the case with rural America.”

J.D. Vance’s Views on Stepparents Are Straight Out of Project 2025
This claim has been made for decades, often to oppose parenting by LGBTQ+ people. Today it is a pillar of Project 2025. Under the heading “The Family Agenda,” the presidential transition blueprint declares: “Married men and women are the ideal natural family structure because all children have a right to be raised by the men and women who conceived them.” In other words, children should be raised by their biological parents—not by stepparents, adoptive parents, or parents who conceived with donor sperm or egg.
