The Senate will vote on the ACA tax credit extension as North Dakotans Face a Looming Health Care Crisis
|

|
Tomorrow, the U.S. Senate will vote on whether to extend the critical enhanced ACA tax credits that nearly 40,000 North Dakotans rely on. The Democrats have proposed a clean 3-year extension of these tax credits.

Thousands of North Dakota families are already facing a health care crisis because Fedorchak, Hoeven, and Cramer voted for the Big, Ugly Bill. Now, many North Dakotans are at risk of their health care premiums doubling or tripling if enhanced ACA tax credits expire. This is a matter of life and death—Congressional Republicans can’t keep kicking the can down the road. Democrats stand ready to lower costs and protect health care.

As a retired oncology nurse, I know very well that comprehensive, affordable health insurance means being able to get annual checkups and cancer screenings and follow-up tests and treatments if needed; it means not delaying necessary medical care out of fear of the cost.
It can mean the difference between life and death. The enhanced health care tax credits that help North Dakotans afford comprehensive health insurance through the Marketplace are crucial for many.
I know that people are afraid of what will happen if they lose access to the only good, affordable health insurance option available to them if Congress allows the enhanced health care tax credits to expire at the end of 2025. For patients with ongoing health needs and serious medical conditions like cancer, it’s downright terrifying.
With Open Enrollment underway, North Dakotans are seeing premium spikes for next year’s plans. That’s why I’m urging Sen. Cramer, Sen. Hoeven and Rep. Fedorchak to work with their fellow members of Congress to extend these tax credits before it’s too late.
