Last night, Democrats swept races across the country. Up and down the ballot and from different parts of the Democratic tent, these victories signal that voters have had it with Trump and the current regime’s radical, harmful agenda.
To say this is simply a referendum on Trump understates the hard work put in by Democratic candidates, staff, and volunteers. Polls show that the people who showed up to vote for Abigail Spanberger and Mikie Sherill were energized to vote FOR them, not merely in opposition to Trump.
We can keep this momentum up, and amplify it.
In Georgia, two Democrats flipped seats on the Public Service Commission, the first time Democrats have won non-federal statewide races in nearly 20 years. In 2026, North Dakota will have two Public Service Commissioner spots on the ballot. When electricity costs are going through the roof, we need people in office who will look out for consumers.
Democrats also picked up seats in state legislatures. Democrats flipped 13 seats in the VA House of Delegates. They even broke the Republican Supermajority in the Mississippi Senate.
Johnson, VanWinkle, and Rios are all in their first term, and two of them ran unopposed.
Today, our Chair Adam Goldwyn put out this challenge:
With victories up and down the ballot — from Virginia to Mississippi and Georgia to Iowa — we are now a year minus two days away from Democrats taking back the House and the Senate and putting the brakes on the chaos, corruption, and cruelty of a regime that would deny food assistance, jack up health care costs, and have armed masked gunmen dragging citizens out of their cars on the streets of America.
Here in North Dakota, we are committed to putting statewide candidates on the ballot who will represent the interests of the working people of this state first—people who will not cower as their overlord takes a metaphorical wrecking ball to the VA and a real one to the White House, or who hosts a Great Gatsby-themed party while letting Americans go hungry.
Do you want leaders who support workers over out-of-state corporations? Leaders who support family farmers and ranchers over big ag? Who will listen to North Dakotans, not hide from them?
We need you to get into the fight and run for something. Yes, you. You need to run. Last night's election showed what we all know: 2026 is going to be the best election for Democrats in a generation. If you are waiting for an invitation, this is your invitation.

The North Dakota Democratic-NPL is launching a new grassroots program called “Neighbor to Neighbor” where volunteers will connect with voters in your community to elect Democrats up and down the ballot. As a volunteer, you will be responsible for connecting with voters in 25 homes in your neighborhood or friends and family to help elect Democrats up and down the ballot about 3-4 times this year.
