Today was a roller coaster!
|
House Republicans PASSED Rep. Bill Tveit's resolution (HCR 3013) to urge the Supreme Court to overturn marriage equality. Rep. Austin Foss (D-44) gave an impassioned speech which we will share on social media soon.
|
They then BLOCKED the bill to provide school lunches for every student (HB 1475).
|
In the Senate, Josh Boschee's (D-44) bill (SB 2326) to close domestic violence protection order and sexual assault restraining order hearings to the public passed!
|
Sen. Kathy Hogan's (D-21) bill (SB 2281) to raise the cigarette and cigar tax, include vaping products in this tax, and allocate funds local public health units who are actively involved in monitoring youth smoking and 988 suicide prevention and intervention services.

The House is meeting every afternoon and evening to get these votes in. You can follow along with their daily calendar here, and you can follow the Senate's calendar here!

North Dakota House calls on SCOTUS to overturn same-sex marriage ruling
"I don't go into your church or your home and force you to relabel your relationship just because I don't agree with it," Foss said.
|
"That's not North Dakota nice, that's not even Christian-like," he added. "It was said a few days ago, in this body, on this floor, that a Christian state would be open and accepting. This doesn't feel very open and accepting."

Port: 'Let's put the weather back into the hands of almighty God where it belongs'
"I am not a conspiracy theorist, and I do believe that the earth is round," Morton assured her audience. When a speaker feels obliged to make such assurances, what is about to follow is likely to be a wild ride.

Letter: Sen. Cramer needs to check his voicemail
In fact, I usually get the senator’s voicemail, suggesting that his staff is busy answering other calls. I’ve even been cut off because the mailbox was full. His constituents are calling, so why does the senator claim that he’s getting little feedback?

Letter: I'm appalled by this administration's actions here and abroad
I am opposed to the following recent actions by our president and am disappointed that our elected officials have chosen to turn a blind eye to these obvious misrepresentations. I believe that most reasonable people in the United States and abroad are also appalled by his statements.

Downtown Fargo sees second protest in two days blasting moves by Trump Administration
"I don't think that what's happening is any kind of thoughtful audit for efficiency, if that were the case they would be hiring more inspector generals, not firing them. And they would not be having a bunch of untrained 19-year-old interns running around getting into our private data, they would be having forensic accountants looking at that stuff," Loftus said.

House GOP voting for Medicaid cuts are ‘signing their political death warrant’ at polls: Rep. Boyle
The House of Representatives is gearing up to vote on a budget bill, endorsed by President Trump, that would fulfill most of Trump’s legislative priorities. The bill includes tax breaks for the wealthy partially paid for by steep cuts to Medicaid and SNAP benefits. Rep. Brendan Boyle, D-Pa., joins Alex Witt to share his thoughts on DOGE cuts and the divide between House and Senate GOP on passing a federal budget.

Trump’s High-Level Military Firings Send Several Disturbing Messages
First, and most obviously, it’s telling Black and female officers that their prospects for promotion may be gravely limited. The senior officers fired over the weekend, Gen. Charles “CQ” Brown, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Adm. Lisa Franchetti, the chief of naval operations, were said to be emblems of “wokeness” and “DEI,” which Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has decried as the scourge of the military. (Before coming to the Pentagon, Hegseth had targeted Brown and Franchetti specifically, saying they needed to be replaced by “warfighters.”)

What to know about Dan Bongino, the media personality tapped as FBI deputy director

Trump Wants to Be President for Life—and He’s Already Preparing for It
Pay attention, and connect the dots. Trump installed a loyalist at the Justice Department. Pam Bondi is qualified for the job of attorney general on paper, but there is no question as to why she’s really there: To wield the department’s power as Trump wishes. He installed a loyalist—an unqualified one—as the head of the nation’s intelligence services. Tulsi Gabbard will also do whatever Trump wants. And he’s done the same at the FBI. Kash Patel is obviously there to investigate Trump’s political foes and critics. Incidentally, this week, Patel is also apparently going to be sworn in as the head of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. These moves give Trump personal control over the country’s legal and intelligence services.

‘Trump to Republican voters, eat it’: Nicolle Wallace on GOP voter outrage over government cuts
Eddie Glaude, Princeton University Professor and Charlie Sykes, MSNBC Contributor join Nicolle Wallace on Deadline White House to discuss the growing outrage and anger that Republicans in congress are facing from their own voters, as a result of the firing and cutting spree initiated by Elon Musk, and how the Donald Trump’s denial of the outrage of his own voters could cause a political problem he cannot recover from.

Committees
Every bill is voted on in the North Dakota legislature, but first, it must go through a committee hearing. The committee will vote to give the bill a "Do Pass" or a "Do Not Pass" recommendation. Below is a list of Standing Committees this legislative session.
