Democrats are trying to stop a health care crisis, but Congressional Republicans would rather drive us off a cliff
|
Congressional Republicans knew for months that they would need Democratic votes to pass a funding bill, but they refused to come to the table on behalf of working North Dakotans. Democrats are simply asking for Republicans to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits so health care premiums don’t skyrocket for millions of Americans, including at least 35,000 North Dakotans, and to cancel the Medicaid cuts that would kick 18,000 North Dakotans off their health care coverage. These are such reasonable requests that JD Vance and Mike Johnson have just been lying about Democrats’ demands.

Rural hospitals are already closing because of the Republican Big, Ugly Budget Bill. That’s the same bill that gave every billionaire who attended Jeff Bezos’ $50 million Venice wedding a handout paid for on the backs of hard-working Americans.

Trump and Elon Musk’s DOGE boys decimated the federal workforce, and Republican lawmakers did nothing. They cut funding for pediatric brain cancer research. Julie Fedorchak even celebrated their federal cuts to the VA. Trump’s budget chief, Russ Vought, is taking advantage of the shutdown to go even further. They’re withholding more than $180 million in counter-terrorism funds from New York and looking for other ways to “punish” blue states. Trump is also threatening to fire furloughed federal employees, but labor unions that represent federal workers are calling on Democrats to hold the line.

We can play the blame game all day, but ultimately, more North Dakotans than live in the city of Minot are about to see their health care costs soar or lose their coverage completely, and Democrats are the only ones fighting to stop that.

As a volunteer, you will be responsible for connecting with voters in 25 homes in your neighborhood or friends and family to help elect Democrats up and down the ballot about 3-4 times this year.
