North Dakota income tax revenue to drop over $100M because of Big Beautiful Bill
The tax changes come because North Dakota’s tax code is coupled with the federal government’s. This means changes to the federal tax code automatically trickle down to the state.

NDFU President Mark Watne speaks to Trump's soybean actions with Argentina
Joel Heitkamp is joined on "News and Views" by Mark Watne, the President of North Dakota Farmers Union, to have a conversation about soybeans and tariffs.
This week, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the U.S. government was in negotiations to extend a $20 billion swap line to the Argentine government and potentially purchase the country’s foreign bonds. Almost immediately after, a reported 20 shiploads of Argentine soybeans were purchased by China after the Argentine government announced it would waive taxes on its soybean exports.
$20 billion for a compliment
Argentina pulled every tax they had on soybeans, and it worked. It worked because of Donald Trump, and now China bought 20 vessels at the reduced price. Not only did his tariffs stop China from trading with the U.S., but they bought from someone else at a higher price.
How could Argentina afford to do this you may ask? Well, let me tell you. They did it with American tax-payer dollars after Donald Trump gave them $20 billion. No doubt because Javier Milei, the President of Argentina, blew sunshine up his you-know-what.
America got played. Not only are we out $20 billion for a compliment from Argentina, but most importantly, America’s farmers lost a buyer. A buyer that not only found a way to get soybeans for a better deal, but a buyer that has found a new and reliable friend.

Dr. Doug Griffin is Sanford Health’s Chief Physician and is Board Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. He joins Joel on "News and Views" for a conversation on Tylenol and vaccines.

North Dakota faces short deadline to apply for $50B rural health program; special session possible
Sen. Josh Boschee, D-Fargo, said the quick turnaround is reminiscent of when the state was granted emergency COVID-19 relief funding.

Soy growers respond to Argentina soybean actions
Upon this news, American Soybean Association President Caleb Ragland issued the following statement:
“U.S. soybean farmers have been clear for months: the administration needs to secure a trade deal with China. China is the world’s largest soybean customer and typically our top export market. The U.S. has made zero sales to China in this new crop marketing year due to 20% retaliatory tariffs imposed by China in response to U.S. tariffs. This has allowed other exporters, Brazil and now Argentina, to capture our market at the direct expense of U.S. farmers. The frustration is overwhelming. U.S. soybean prices are falling, harvest is underway, and farmers read headlines not about securing a trade agreement with China, but that the U.S. government is extending $20 billion in economic support to Argentina while that country drops its soybean export taxes to sell 20 shiploads of Argentine soybeans to China in just two days.
U.S. farmers cannot wait and hope any longer. ASA is calling on President Trump and his negotiating team to prioritize securing an immediate deal on soybeans with China. The farm economy is suffering while our competitors supplant the United States in the biggest soybean import market in the world.”

ND farmers losing ground in trade war: 'This is a mess'
China is still holding off on making soybean purchases from U.S. farmers, as its trade war with the Trump administration plays out. A key North Dakota ag group says without an immediate solution, it could be harder for local farmers to stay in business.
As regional farmers fan out for the fall harvest, some are scrambling to find extra storage for their soybeans, because China continues to look to other nations for this commodity.
North Dakota Farmers Union President Mark Watne said the dilemma also weighs down prices for other major crops like corn. He said the ripple effect could be felt for a while.
"This is a mess, and time is of the essence here," said Watne. "We can't just keep throwing things into storage and not have any corrective action, someplace along the line that's going to utilize up the supply, or we'll see two, three years of lower prices because of this action."

Letter: The president should lead the efforts to tone down rhetoric
He wants to “unify the country,” but finishes with, “the radial left is vicious and horrible” and “should be investigated for Kirk’s death.” The “left is trying to destroy the country,” while those who disagree with him are “vermin,” “scum,” and “guilty of treason.” He is unconcerned about violence on the right as “they are defending the country from crime.” Both Don Jr. and Eric Trump were on FOX to state there is no political violence on the right, it's all on the left.

Trump’s Policies Are Devastating Farmers
Trump has abandoned farmers. Tariffs, budget cuts, and the chaos of this administration have plunged American farmers into record debt. Countries have stopped buying American products and China has totally stopped buying soybeans from the US. Budget cuts to SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) have significantly reduced farm revenue.

The president has broken his campaign promises to help American farmers. Share this with your friends and family so that they know the impact Trump is having on farmers.

ICYMI: Trump White House in Chaos Over Epstein Scandal
“SAD! Donald Trump can’t even get his loyalists to hold it together on the Epstein scandal without a full-scale meltdown. Instead of being transparent with the American people and seeking justice for Epstein’s victims, Trump and his goons are too busy falling over themselves to try to pull the wool over the public’s eyes. Enough with the chaos and the cover-ups; the American people deserve the truth. There’s one thing they can do to set the record straight: Release the files.”

As immigration raids step up, US citizens predicted at risk for detainment
In reality, the Trump administration’s aggressive drive to carry out mass deportations of people without legal status already has led to U.S. citizens being swept up in raids and detained, according to news reports from around the country as well as immigration experts. Such detainments now will increase, experts predict.
Once in detention, it can take time to verify citizenship. A passport is considered the gold standard for proof that an individual is a citizen, but fewer than half of Americans hold passports, according to the State Department’s most recent data from 2024. Even fewer are likely to carry the bulky document around.

Rural health clinics are closing after Trump’s ‘One Big Beautiful Bill,’ raising the legislation’s political risks
Exactly two months after President Donald Trump signed his policy megabill in a July 4 celebration at the White House, a Virginia health care company blamed the law for the closure of three rural clinics serving communities along the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The closures, Augusta Medical Group said in its statement, were part of the company’s “ongoing response to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and the resulting realities for healthcare delivery.”
Rural health providers that rely on Medicaid funding were already under strain before the bill cut federal health spending by hundreds of billions of dollars over the next decade. Now, Democrats are linking that crisis to Trump and Republicans in elections this year and next.

‘You’re Going to See Very Severe Things and Dangerous Things’: Medicaid Cuts in Rural Idaho
“We have patients who drive two to three hours to come see us for prenatal appointments and to deliver in Kootenai County,” Dr. McCrummen said. “It’s quite a lot and some of them don’t have transportation.”
Dr. McCrummen said that many of her patients are covered by Medicaid, including those that travel from Bonner County.
“The Medicaid population is large, especially in the rural areas that we take care of to the north,” she said. “They have already been kind of displaced in terms of not having providers close to their home. And so in addition now to traveling far to come see us, those who will no longer be on Medicaid find many different barriers to care.”

Trump Will Force the Government Shutdown To Make Health Care Even More Expensive for Millions of Americans
“It’s despicable that Donald Trump and his rubber-stamp Republicans are willing to let the government shut down in order to push forward a massive health care crisis for millions of Americans. After already passing the LARGEST health care cut in history, Republicans are threatening to make health care even MORE expensive for working families. Democrats are ready for Republicans to come to the table and make a deal that doesn’t do further damage to working families.”

Kristi Noem Fast-Tracked Millions in Disaster Aid to Florida Tourist Attraction After Campaign Donor Intervened
The measure backed by Democrats in both chambers would have funded the government through Oct. 31 with a series of policy add-ons. It would permanently extend Obamacare subsidies set to expire at the end of the year, as well as reverse Medicaid cuts enacted in President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill.”
It also aimed to address Trump funding cuts that have infuriated Democrats in recent months: It would lift the freeze on foreign aid funding that the White House is withholding through “pocket rescissions” and restore funding for public broadcasting.
