60 years ago, Lyndon B. Johnson signed Medicare and Medicaid into law. Now, health care is under attack.

On July 30, 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed Medicare and Medicaid into law.

When he signed them into law, President Johnson said we must not "spurn those who suffer untended in a land that is bursting with abundance." When looking at potential spending cuts he said he "may cut back some tanks but not on health." Johnson knew these programs would reflect the moral backbone of America—that everyone deserves a fair shake in life and that you and your neighbor help each other in times of need.

60 years later, Trump has made the deepest cuts to Medicaid ever.

Taking care of our neighbors is a North Dakota value too, one that our representatives have forgotten. Fedorchak, Cramer, and Hoeven voted to kick millions of Americans off their health insurance, including more North Dakotans than live in the entire city of Jamestown. We won’t forget how they put rural hospitals and nursing homes on the chopping block to give a giant tax handout to the megawealthy like Jeff Bezos, Peter Thiel, and Elon Musk. Just today, Trump's Treasury Secretary says the Trump Accounts created by the Big, Ugly Budget bill are a "backdoor for privatizing Social Security."

The North Dakota Democratic-NPL will continue to fight tooth and nail against Republicans’ heinous attacks on health care and hard-earned benefits!

Help us elect great Democrats up and down the ballot!
The North Dakota Democratic-NPL is launching a new grassroots program called “Neighbor to Neighbor” where volunteers will connect with voters in your community to elect Democrats up and down the ballot. As a volunteer, you will be responsible for connecting with voters in 25 homes in your neighborhood or friends and family to help elect Democrats up and down the ballot about 3-4 times this year.
Grassroots organizers are the lifeblood of the Dem-NPL! Sign up to volunteer with the Dem-NPL!
