NO KINGS - FARGO - MOORHEAD

Multiple Cities

In America, we don’t put up with would-be kings. KICK OUT THE CLOWNS. KICK OUT THE CLOWNS (Women's March) and NO KINGS is a national day of action and mass mobilization in response to increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption from Trump and his allies. We’ve watched as they’ve cracked down on free speech, detained people for their political views, threatened to deport American citizens, and defied the courts. They’ve done this all while continuing to serve and enrich their billionaire allies.

🚨On Saturday, June 14, we’re taking to the streets nationwide. We’re not gathering to feed his ego. We’re building a movement that leaves him behind.🚨

The flag doesn’t belong to Donald Trump. It belongs to us. We’re not watching history happen. We’re making it. NO KINGS - KICK OUT THE CLOWNS.

On June 14th, we’re showing up everywhere he isn’t—to say no thrones, no crowns, no kings. Check out nokings.org for more information.

A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

Veto 'mistake' leads to $35 million in housing funds cut by Armstrong administration

A veto by North Dakota Gov. Kelly Armstrong aimed at a single line of a budget bill ended up removing an entire funding bucket designated for affordable housing, a move the administration said was a "mistake."

In a veto letter published on Monday, May 19, Armstrong said he was striking $150,000 that was supposed to go to a liaison to address homelessness in tribal communities, calling on the state for more "long-term" solutions to the issue.

Medicaid payments barely keep hospital mental health units afloat. Federal cuts could sink them.

Medicaid covers health care for about 72 million Americans with low incomes or disabilities. Tiefenthaler predicts that if some of them are kicked off the program and left without insurance coverage, more people would delay treatment for mental health problems until their lives spin out of control.
“Then they’re going to enter through the emergency room when they’re in a crisis,” she said. “That’s not really a solution to what we have going on in our country.”

Josh Boschee and Gretchen Dobervich: Democrats fought for an economy that works

Amidst the missed opportunities and successes this year, one issue cast a shadow over the entire session: the chaotic, failed policies of the Trump administration. Already, our neighbors have felt federal cuts to everything from rural infrastructure to care for the disabled. Republican lawmakers ignored Democrats’ calls to protect our communities from these cuts, instead opting to roll back proposed state investments in anticipation of further harmful federal impacts to the state.

Wildlife group warns federal budget cuts could hit Jamestown research center

A North Dakota wildlife group is worried federal funding cuts could affect a renowned wildlife research center at Jamestown and is urging people to contact Congress.

The Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center is part of the U.S. Geological Survey, which is facing a recommended $564 million budget cut proposed by the Trump administration. A May 2 letter from Russell Vought, director of the federal Office of Management and Budget, says some cuts are aimed at programs that “focus on social agendas (e.g., climate change).”

John Bradley, executive director of the North Dakota Wildlife Federation, said with those cuts, it would be “miraculous” if the center was able to stay open.
Bradley put out a call last week for conservation groups to contact members of Congress to maintain funding for the research center.

Medicaid cuts threaten the rights and lives of North Dakotans with disabilities

The mandatory Medicaid work requirements start date has been moved to Dec. 31, 2026. Although people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are technically exempt, real-life implementation often fails to protect them. Many individuals with disabilities and their family caregivers get caught in confusing eligibility rules, risking wrongful loss of coverage.

North Dakota Legislature to put three ballot measures to voters in 2026

Mary Tintes, vice president of the League of Women Voters of North Dakota, said the organization does not support the ballot measure and has concerns that the language is ambiguous, leaving it open to interpretation.

“We’re just afraid that it’s going to be used as a tool against some of the initiated processes that we are using,” Tintes said.
Lawmakers directed that the single-subject rule ballot measure appear on the June 2026 primary election ballot.

People’s Session provides legislative wish list for 2027 session

Erin Oban, a former Democratic state senator and teacher, said students going through the K-12 system have vastly different needs.

“There is strong public support for our public schools,” Oban said. “The challenge is that is not necessarily reflected in the decision-making process and funding that is coming, particularly from the state level.”

She added teachers are being underfunded and some have needed to take second jobs to make ends meet.

McFeely: Teddy Roosevelt would be ashamed of Doug Burgum. Modern Americans should be, too.

The protesters, rightly, didn't think much of either. Judging by Burgum's irritated pucker-face in having to face the unwashed masses, he was perturbed by their opinion.

Burgum's latest headline-grabbing action was telling oil and gas executives that our public lands — national parks, national monuments, national forests, national grasslands — are nothing more than "assets" on a "balance sheet" that can be monetized to somehow eliminate our national debt. Translated: Burgum wants to lease or sell public lands for extraction and exploitation of their natural resources.

Union leader says popularity of local labor unions is growing

“You know, you want to go to work, and you want to get a fair salary, good benefits, and you want to do your job well. The inequality is driving people to the unions, and unions are now as popular as they were in the late 1950’s to the early 1960’s.” AFL-CIO’s Mark Froemke said.

The Republicans’ Medicaid Cuts Could Cause a Rural Unemployment Crisis

Nationwide, hospitals employ about 4 percent of the U.S. workforce, making them America’s sixth-largest employer. It’s harder to tease out exactly how much of the rural workforce they employ, but by some estimates the health care sector accounts for about 14 percent of employment in those areas; there are many rural counties where hospitals are the largest or second-largest employer.

The domino effect of cutting SNAP during a trade war

And in rural and low-income areas—where many grocery stores rely on SNAP spending to stay afloat—shops could shutter, creating food deserts where even those who can afford groceries have nowhere nearby to buy them. This isn’t just a budget cut, Democrats warn. It’s a direct blow to millions of Americans’ survival, dignity, and stability.

Kristi Noem is making the homeland less secure

As homeland security secretary, Noem wields powers that range all the way from immigration to natural disaster relief to cybersecurity. It would be a lot of responsibility for one person who is supremely well-versed in all those areas. Noem is not that person. Instead, over the last few years, she has systematically recrafted herself as the perfect TV-ready simulacrum of a MAGA Cabinet member. Even though her state is nowhere near the border, as governor she glommed on to the right-wing anti-immigrant fervor. Even when Trump has been skeptical of her qualifications, as during her brief time on the shortlist to be his running mate last year, he has rewarded her loyalty to the cause.

The Largest Upward Transfer of Wealth in American History

And while the content of their beliefs can be questioned, the seriousness of their purpose cannot. Congressional Republicans are willing to endanger their hold on power to enact policy changes they believe in. Dems Preparing to Go to War on Immigrant Detention Centers

EARLIER THIS WEEK the Trump administration announced charges against Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-N.J.), whom they accused of assaulting ICE agents while visiting a New Jersey detention center.
This may have been a tactical mistake. Because now Democratic lawmakers are planning to make a series of public visits to private detention centers in their states starting as early as next week, according to House Democrats and aides who spoke to The Bulwark.

The idea is to put a spotlight on the Trump administration’s manipulation of the justice system, attacks on institutions, and targeting of political dissent. But Trump himself created the opening. Because by targeting McIver, he turned the detention visits into a question of congressional oversight.
