What happened today?
The Senate voted to concur with the amendments the House made to Sen. Kathy Hogan's (D-21) bill (SB 2200) to fund the 988 crisis hotline program. This bill, which provides critical funding to help stop suicide, will now head to the Governor's desk!

We can't stop fighting to protect Public Schools!
|
The ND House concurred with the Senate on Rep. Ben Koppleman's (R-16) bill (HB 1540) that would send your public tax dollars to private schools. So now this bill will head to the governor's desk. Private schools don’t have to accept every student, and they’re not accountable to taxpayers! This isn't great, but the bill will still have to be voted on again in the House because the Senate added some amendments.

Rep. Michelle Axtman's bill (SB 2400), which also seeks to use public funds to subsidize private schools, will be up for a vote tomorrow in the House. Tell your Representative to vote no!

“Eligible North Dakota voters should be able to mail their absentee ballot without fear that their ballot will be tossed out,” Barbara Headrick, the organization’s president, said in a statement to the North Dakota Monitor. She said the bill would create obstacles for groups like rural and Native voters, seniors and people with disabilities.

The North Dakota Senate voted down a resolution Thursday that related to mandated reporting requirements for public officials, a proposal prompted by the sex crime conviction of former Sen

The discussions are the latest in a monthslong saga as the Commission seeks to make the auditor/treasurer a hired position instead of an elected office -- leading to six public hearings throughout March and April. The board has been at odds with Splonskowski over alleged misconduct and inaction. Splonskowski has defended his actions and work.

North Dakota Senate removes funding for anti-abortion campaign, advances budget bill
|
This bill threatens to take control away from local communities and parents, criminalize librarians and teachers, and block access to essential digital resources like Libby and Hoopla. Libraries already have processes in place to manage their collections, and laws are already in place to keep illegal materials out of libraries. SB 2307 adds nothing but confusion, fear, and at least $2 million in new costs for redundant internet

North Dakota senators on Tuesday narrowly rejected a proposal to add $1 million for a “life education committee” in the Office of Management and Budget budget to teach people about abortion alternatives.
|
|
The amendment was brought by Sen. Janne Myrdal, R-Edinburg, who pitched the program as a way to help pregnant women.
|
The committee established by the amendment would have administered a campaign to teach the public about state abortion laws, policies “supporting life and family values,” and resources available for pregnant mothers, families and children. The campaign would have been carried out by a third party contractor.

The column hit the InForum.com news cycle on Saturday morning and it came as no surprise. Local conservative talk show host Scott Hennen chewed out Forum Communications, and other media outlets, for not covering North Dakota State’s football appearance at the White House, with the final words in the headline “ a sad chapter for ND media .”

Mixing politics with covering Bison football; saw this coming a mile away. Hennen’s point: that local media don’t like President Trump and that was the reason for not making the trip to Washington, D.C.
